Voice Over magazine relauches!

After a seven-year hiatus, Henrik has brought back Voice Over, the first online scriptwriting magazine directed at the community of hobbyists and aspiring writers.

The magazine is released four times a year and is packed full of interesting articles, interviews, reviews and all kinds of helpful tidbits that will take your writing to the next level.

The magazine is released in PDF, ePub and Plain Text formats, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the magazine with pretty much any device out there.

Just wanted to say well done on this, I think it is a lovely idea.

As you say it will develop and the more contributions you receive the better.

The liked the idea of more detailed OWC reviews as it is a nice way to tie SS into the project.

Not sure if any of these will help but here's a few suggestions for future editions;

1) not only a review of a current OWC but maybe an invited review of a favourite past OWC, to be undertaken by a long standing regular. The OWC goes back a fair way but there are a handful of us who are recent.

2) guilty secret films - ask a handful of regulars to suggest a film that they enjoy that others may not understand. Eg mine is the Muppets Christmas Carol.  Says it all!!

3) format debates - these appear to kick off on a regular basis in any event but it would seem a suitable topic. Maybe the case for, versus the case against.

4) memorable scenes - bit like a favourite film but  focused on a scene that jumps out which maybe the film failed to exploit. Ie lost great scenes

If you posted the topics, readers could be asked to PM you with their suggestions making the result a surprise.

What a series of splendid ideas, Reef.  I have not had time to check out the issue yet (though I will), but I'll bet Henrik takes at least some of this on board.

Undercover Brother

Yes, they're not the indie artsy types...but they made me laugh. They still make me laugh when I watch them. I think I've seen UB 50 times, at in part.

Seems like a popular idea.

So no more revelations on this thread.  If Henrik likes the idea, I would even offer to let folks PM them to me -- and why they love them so -- and I would compile them into an article.

Ideas

What about inputting a top five favorite features list? :)  For every month or every year. Probably year. An explanation of why the feature is their favorite. Blah blah. Hell, I think it can be written as a coverage format.

This also applies to a short as well. But for the shorts, it can be monthly.

That's what comes to mind so far.

I'll be glad to help as best as possible in the reviewing of scripts and drawing.

Bert, please feel free to take this on. Hopefully this will help Henrik as it seems to have raised interest.

I am sure we could all come up with a question/challenge for each edition eg favourite stunt, best line, best girl in a tight bikini (ok, couldn't help myself) etc etc

I am not sure if Henrik aimed to have a community style magazine but it does have that potential and a most worthy addition to this site.

Interesting ideas and I'm glad that this topic finally became active.

I'll certainly take the suggestions under consideration, although since this is not a monthly but a quarterly magazine, some of them might not be that interesting with that schedule.

Of course the best way to influence the content on the magazine is to contribute, so I hope that some of you do.

It's fantastic to springboard form your recent short script success into this.
That kind of determination is very rewarding and attractive to producers.
Taking those experiences and "paying it forward" to us unproduced folks.

I finally got the chance to pour through it this morning.

Nicely done, good sir.
It's great to read about your experiences.
There's thousands of little reasons why productions don't come together as hoped.

Good idea with the free software comparison.
And you provided links! I know someone that's going to appreciate that. ;D

I'm working more on the feature film end of things, but it's the same formula.
Shorts for me are the "down time" between feature work.
And it can also serve as a great warm up to help prep me for a feature.

I haven't been produced yet, but I am here on the ground in Los Angeles.
Meeting industry folks, working my mojo and keeping those scripts coming. ;)

Your magazine is great for the intermediate level semi-pro interests.
And you've got some good ideas here to keep it rolling.
