SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Questions or Comments  /  Yes.....I need help from a writer
Posted by: Oceanwind, January 4th, 2012, 11:49am
I posted here some time ago and I thought I would post again.

First,  I AM NOT a writer. Don't know anything about writing. (as you will soon see)

I am a producer/shooter/director/editor/photon wrangler etc etc (basically everything but writing)

Been wanting to shoot a short but TV work has kept me bizzy.  So , I opened up notepad and started blurting out stuff to get it on paper.  It sucked. redid it. blah...

I let someone read it, they said the format is terrible, didn't even get to the story.

I was putting shot angles in.....just basically everything that shouldn't be in a script so I wouldn't forget things.  Actually didn't really care about format as I was going to be the one shooting/directing anyway.

A friend said rather than do a no/lo budget, why not see if you can get a little bit of funding through "Kickstarter".   (seems like a good idea...)

So I download and install Celtx to straighten up the mess and........I realize I don't know jack.

Anyway,  I need to get this fixed, correct format, then start polishing the story to make it more viable before I can do the Kickstarter presentation.

Anyone want to help me out by first fixing the format, then helping put a little more "meat" in the story?

Here's a link...... First read it, then come back here and we can all have a good laugh at my expense.

Hey Ocean -

Okay - took a quick look.  A few things (off the cuff) - need to whittle down those descriptions alot.  The formatting for the dialog is not standard, either.  What I saw was 7 pages long...was that all of it?

One thing that *might* get you some responses...  Is there a link to your produced films?

If the script is that short, and your directing skills more than make up for it, I'm willing to guess someone here would love to make your acquaintance...

Thanks
Real quick......   I know about the descriptions.  I was just writing things down so I wouldn't forget things (at the time I was not even thinking about proper format because I didn't think I'd need it as I was going to be the one shooting this)

7 pages.....that's it.

I've never produced a "Film"   so no link there.
I do weekly TV and some commercials, music vids etc.
Just did a national ad series for AARP   "when I grow up"
Might be able to google those commercials???   to be honest once the check clears and I sign away rights,  I don't bother tracking anymore.

Is there a site where you can actually hire a writer?
Maybe see some of their work and then hire them to work?
I'm not talking David Peoples, M Night Shamalamabing bang or such.
Just a writer to help with my little thing.

Tried inktip but it's mostly people trying to sell script from what I see.

Any links?

This site is pretty much the same, in that aspect.  Perhaps you can read some scripts, here, and hire a writer that you like.

I'm just wondering...if you're going to shoot this yourself why do you need a writer?  Are you looking for someone to enhance your original story or just put yours into proper format?

Oceanwind,

Check out my FB link in my signature - I have a feature project in development with a well-known director attached and we're getting top level reads. I have many references from those in the industry who will vouch for the quality of my writing. If you're then interested in working together for a fee, you can contact me at ajrscreenworks@verizon.net and give me your details...

@ Marnieml
I'm looking for a writer because I just sat down and wrote something that I could shoot for basically a lo/no budget thing. (ie a story that would work with the locations/resouces I have available locally)   But... I ended up with a story that (IMO) Doesn't have much "story" in it. So, I need to get it properly formated. (which I could probably do myself eventually. As time allows ) but then I still have a story thats a little lacking.)       So, yes, I need it properly formatted and then some help "enhancing" as you said.
I finally decided that I might very well do the "Kickstrater" thing to give a me few more finaceing options, but (obviously) I need to get the script tuned up first.

AJR, I'll take a look...

Hey Ocean,

Feel free to take a look at my stuff, as well.  (Not competing with AJR, just putting it out there - we're all friends here!)  :))))
