SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board / Questions or Comments / Making a resume?
Posted by: Conz, January 5th, 2012, 1:31pm
I'm not at this point yet, I don't know if I'll ever be, but I strive to get to the point where I can "shop" my writing. Without having any "experience" beyond reading boards like this, books, and basically teaching myself how to write, how would I got about making a resume?
I'm sure some of you guys have made them before, any chance I can look at one?
I've seen little job listings for shorts, and scipt readers on sites like mandy.com, but they require a cover letter/resume to reply. I don't even have a clue how to approach doing this. It's not like you can attach everything you've writter... or can you?
thanks.

for instance, saw a listing in my area, someone looking for sports and comedy... the only 2 things on planet earth i give a crap about (sad) and i wanted to open a dialogue with them... but I have to have a resume on Mandy.com. They don't even let you see the email you're applying to.
I just basically put my email in the body, what am I supposed to put if I don't have and references? It's a lo-no paying job, what writer with tons of credentials is applying for that? I attached a writing sample and naturally they never replied.
What do you guys do? I'm sure you've applied to listings before.

You tell them you don't have jack to show -- but you tell them in a note that is so interesting and so funny that they will be interested in your writing anyway.
good luck.

I just feel like I'd be better off emailing people directly. What sites do you guys look at? Is there a directory somewhere? I'm not expecting to have someone hire me to write anything worth a damn, but I'd like to work with people.

I'm designing a CV/resume tailored for pitching purposes as everyone seems to ask for this. Alas, I don't have big budget movies to show off. Do you guys put produced shorts, even if they are just film student production?
Just curious, as I have nothing produced or in pre-production other than short films made by students. Thanks.
