Hey all,

I have actually been on SS for a month or so but thought I would introduce myself, better late than never right?

I work in the spare parts industry for an automotive company and have no experience in writing what so ever but am learning more and more as each day passes. I love movies and grew up with 80’s action pictures so there’s nothing I like more than a Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Seagal and yes even a Van Damme movie. :)

I was born and raised in southern England before we immigrated to Australia just over two years ago which has been a wonderful experience so far, nothing better than a beer and a barbie. I have a young daughter Isabelle who is nearly three and another baby on the way, due in two weeks actually (hopefully a boy?)

I found SS in early October and become an obsessive guest user until I decided it was time to cut the guest tag and throw myself into the grinder with all you lovely people.

I can’t stress how helpful this site has been to me and how far it’s helped me with my own technique.

I have tried to make an effort and read as much as possible and leave feedback, though I have learnt now from a bit more experience that sometimes you are leaving feedback into thin air.

That’s about it I think for me, not much more to say. I guess I will see you around the board.

All the best for 2012.

Steve, good luck with the new baby. Don't let the dingo...ok, I'll stop.

Glad to have you here myself, especially since I'm still kind of a new guy still. Don't hold back on your reviews! I personally love reviews from writers that just started. There's a purity to them. They just tell you what works and what doesn't. Extremely helpful.

You got off to a good start with your first script. Best of luck with the baby and the writing. As for beers and barbies...FU...I'm jealous!

when you leave feedback makes sure they are active members determined by the number of posts they have.

Steve, I don't know when the next OWC is, but try to participate in that and read all of the scripts. That's another way to get to know active members, though about half of the entries will be from people that don't contribute. Still, you should meet about 15 or so active and knowledgeable people. Follow the portal, too.

Ahhh, perhaps I should've read this before posing my question on your script! Where in the South, btw?

Congrats on the imminent arrival.

Commiserations on the imminent sleep deprivation.

Hey Andrew,

Lived in Guildford, Surrey, then moved to Portsmouth before the move to Oz.

Kev,

I am actually looking to the OWC challenge now to be honest, to write something within a time period will be a good learning experience.

Thank you both for the congratulations and yes, I’m not looking forward to the sleep deprivation Andrew.

Have a good one

Hey Steve,

Great to see you here on the boards.
You're one of a small crop of participating new contributors worth watching.
With time, you'll know better whom to review by simply seeing them around lots.
Until then, check the member's posting habits to be sure.
That way, you don't waste your time.

I've learned that's the biggest thing about working in the film industry.
People will listen to you, so long as you are not wasting their time.
And they, in turn, won't waste your time either with non mutual gain stuff.
Those are the folks you want to gravitate to.

Best of luck with the wee one about to be born!
See you around the forum!

Regards.
E.D.

P.S. Don't feel bad at all about your first script.
You're light years ahead of where I was a year and a half ago when I started! ;D

Hey Ed,

Thanks for the kind comments and tips. BTW, I don't feel bad about my script, I loved writing it and feel honoured about how many people have left feedback and find that a compliment in itself.

All I want to do is learn and improve and think I have found the right place for that. :)

All the best to you.

Welcome Steve.

It’s a give and take policy here and you seem to be doing your fair share of reviewing and contributing in general so it’s all good.

You can really learn and develop here as a writer as well as imparting some of your own knowledge. The way you approach it determines what you'll get out of it. SS is a fantastic resource.

Enjoy.

Hey Col,

Thanks for the welcome and I agree with you my friend, you can get a lot of knowledge from SS but you have to approach it in the right way.

Thanks again, see you around the forum.

Steve congrats your getting around this site fast and furious and your generous feedbacks have been greatly appreciated(including my script).

Point me in the right direction for your script and ill give it a read.... I have 2 little girls of my own, was hoping for a boy, but as the men determine the sex(apparently) it`s my own fault..

anyway good luck

I like that!

I'm hoping for a boy but I have this funny feeling I'm destined to live my life in a household of women. Not that is anything wrong with that of course :P

I have only one script up and it's my first attempt, called "The Chat Up Line" in the shorts section. If you get around to it, any feedback you leave would be appreciated.

Thanks again to both you for your welcome.

See you around the forum.

Steve, just wanted to say hi and also congrats. Looking at the date of the post bubs would be roughly 2mths now, as for sleep dep - wait till you have 4 - then it really kills you.
Anyways, I am fairly new to this too, just posted my first script and am willing to help with input for you and anyone who needs it. Although, with me being new to this, I sometimes wonder if the info I'm giving is right. Do you sometimes feel like that?

Good luck with your writing and with bubs - hope he/she is sleeping soundly for you.

Renee.

(Plus - will try to review your work tomoz - just can't guarantee it straight away in this hectic houshold)

Hey Renee,

Well, firstly thanks for the congrats which is very gracious of you and commiserations’ on your own hectic household. Bub is actually 7 weeks old, was two weeks overdue but you'll pretty close to the mark.

I've seen your script up (The League Undisclosed) and after your nice comments here and also feedback on my own "not the best" OWC you've earned yourself a read me thinks.

At first it can be apprehensive but at the end of the day all you’re doing is giving your opinion and we all have one of those.  Just give your honest views and try not to hold back on your comments, people can take it...well most can. ;D We’re all here to help each other at the end of the day and improve.

Am I correct in thinking you’re here in Oz? Just pm if you ever need a read of anything, I’m not that experienced but will always give you a honest opinion.

All the best and thanks again for congrats, Renee. It’s much appreciated :)

Ahh, some quiet time without - I'm on the computer! I'ts my turn! Lol, I love my kids, but they are definitely a handful.
Yes, I live in the land of Oz, but over the other side - Melbourne.
Thanks for the offer to pm you, you are quite welcome to do the same. I've done a lot of research on formatting, but still get mixed up in what's right and wrong at times.
I'd love you tell me what you think of The League Undisclosed - being my first script I'm eager to know whether it passes or fails the public opinion.
Am going to read 'The Chat Up Line' now, but I see you've had lots of comments on it already, did you still want me to make any comments?

Funny, I just literally left you some feedback on your first 10 pages ;D

Totally up to you but like you correctly say, it already has its fair share of feedback. It was my first script and some of comments I received were so helpful as to what I was doing wrong.

All the best.

Hey Steve,

Nice to finally get some background on people I've been interacting with for the past few months. Reciprocating the welcome even though we both discovered this place around the same time. =D

Stevie,
Yes, I'm an Aussie. Glad to see more on SS.

I love the Gold Coast, but we live near the Mornington Peninsula.

My husband hates me for this, but - NO - I don't watch football. He does go for the Saints though and so do the kids.

Steve - have read your script and will comment soon, sorry for the delay.
