I heard about this movie a while ago and am looking forward to it when it comes out next week.

Silent House is shot in real time.  An eighty-eight minute film whose story is told in eighty-eight minutes.  Supposedly, it was done in one take.  It could suck to Guiuness-Book-Of-World-Records proportions; it could be a big winner at all the awards show this and next year.  Who knows?

From a writer's/storyteller's point of view, I find this very interesting.  To do it in real time takes some serious balls.  For this reason, alone, I hope it works.

this is the one with Elizabeth Olsen.

Actually, it appears as if the one with EO is a remake.  Still....

Nope.  Was there a Spanish one first?

I had not heard of that -- and it makes me less impressed.

The one Phil posted a trailer to is the original and imho it was pretty good with quite a few creepy moments.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1646973/

"Recorded with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR photographic camera, shot in one continuous take over four days, with $6000 budget, two hand held lamps and a few light tubes."

Maybe it's just me, but it aggrevates me that we have to remake these foreign films that really don't need improved upon or basterdized.

Oh, no -- it ain't just you.

I also hear the great Spanish film "The Orphanage" is gearing up for similar treatment.

I've got zero interest in the Hollywoodized remake of this.

The original was shot with a $2k camera on a $6k budget over four days.
Now that kind of ingenuity interests me on many levels.

But the Latin American production was a boon for that nation.
And I hope it continues to open doors for talent from the region.

From what I've read about this one, it sounds like they are changing around quite a few things. I'm definitely not all for American remakes, however, I'm really excited about this one. Elizabeth Olsen is perfect for a role like this and the reviews so far are promising. Also, I think anyone who has any experience in filmmaking can appreciate the attempt of shooting a movie in one take, whether or not they cheated, it's still impressive. They've posted some B-Roll footage online if anyone is interested:

I really disliked this movie.  A waste of £10 I spent on it when the DVD came out.  I gave the DVD away.

After seeing Elizabeth's performance in Martha Marcy May Marlene, I was looking forward to this.  Don't get me wrong, she was amazing.  Vey, very good.  The best thing about it.

But even she could not make up for how dull and boring this movie was.

Hey Curt, there is a thread for this in the movie and DVD reviews section.  Lots of movie reviews over there.

This section is for rumors of upcoming movies.
