SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /   General Chat  /  The folding of Creative Screenwriting Magazine

I don't know if you guys have already had discussions about this, I've been away for a couple of months.

I was wondering why my favourite magazine had been suspiciously absent from my mailbox for a very long time. Since I had just resubscribed after a short break because of my financial situation, I assumed that I had just screwed up the subscription somehow and went to contact their customer support.

Much to my horror and dismay I came to learn that the magazine has been shut down because of lack of funds and will no longer be published. Furthermore, they've dismissed all staff so I can't even contact them to get a refund for my subscription (money which I would have much use for since I'm desperately poor after getting a job).

However, much more than the loss of the money, I'm disappointed by the disappearance of my favourite magazine. Each issue was a great inspiration to me as the various interviews and features would entice me to write. In fact, the magazine directly motivated me to start writing again after a long hiatus from scriptwriting altogether. I think it is a great loss to the entire community, professional and otherwise.

Are there any other magazines like that out there or should I ramp up the production of Voice Over to fill the gap?

I think Script magazine is still active, and Final Draft has their own called Fade In., I believe.  I think most of the trade magazines suffered with the enormous amount of content available to writers on the web.

Hey Henrik,

The magazine disappearing didn't surprise me.
I attended their expo last fall here in L.A. and it wasn't pretty.

I'd been to a couple pitch fests, so I knew what to expect.
Headlining guests speakers were no shows...
And several of the companies I wanted to pitch bowed out.

I saw the writing on the wall and didn't want to waste hundreds of dollars.
So, I left the con Friday morning with a cash refund in hand.

Sad that the publication soon downward spiraled too.

E.D.
