SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /   General Chat  /  Producing an already produced script

Hey guys, so I got an email from a short-filmmaker who wants to produce a script of mine that's already been produced before(The Riddle Book) http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1250434068/

I just wanted to ask around here what anyone's thoughts are.  It's already been produced before, but I don't expect there to be any legal stuff involved, would there?  Even if there were no copyright/legality issues at play, would you let another filmmaker film a script that's already been filmed?

Hey Rock,

Congrats on the director interest.
If you didn't have any exclusivity agreement with the previous director...
You should be all good.

And yes, you should let the new interested party know about the existing film.
Being upfront about things like that is best.

Regards,
E.D.

Make sure you ask your first director what the status is with his film. If his plans are to take his film to the festival circuit, he most likely will not want a second film to be produced....This has happened to me btw. A Hero's Gift has been produced three times. Once in India and twice in the US. The one in India was a non issue, but the two in the US had a bit of a squirmish (scrimmage?) for a while.
