SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  News  /  Facebook plagerism help needed - Resolved! Thanks!
Posted by: Don, July 22nd, 2012, 1:49pm
Folks,

I need help contacting an individual on Facebook.

On this page: http://www.facebook.com/groups/108332212592317/
Steve Slasher (Evil Has New Diggs)

Steve Williams Jr. has posted several log lines, e.g.,

Chrysanthemum by Steve Slasher

(Horror, Mystery) by On the eve of a visit by a controversial novelist, university students attend a screening of a film based on his latest novel. The screening comes to a sudden halt, however, when a student protestor is murdered in a copycat killing. When....

Each of the log lines that he credits to himself are actually taken verbatim from SimplyScript members, specifically,

Chrysanthemum  by  Abel Orfao
Cinema of Blood by Anthony Sanchez
Cold Chill   by Michael Prevette and Tony Elwood
CopyCats Murders by Willie Meikle
Fade to Black by Alan Olivas
Fall of the House of Usher by Ronald L. Ecker
Inn Danger by Alex Burchfield

If anyone is either friends with Steve Williams Jr. (Steve Slasher) at: http://www.facebook.com/SteveSlasher OR is a member of his group Steve Slash (Evil Has New Diggs) at: http://www.facebook.com/groups/108332212592317/  Could you reach out to him and ask him to remove the plagiarized content?

Thanks,

Don

Yeah I think reporting the group should work.

Be nice if someone told the schmuck off, too!

Eosin,

Thanks, however, I'm not the copyright holder, so I can't file the request.

This is probably your best bet to get them removed by that may or may not stop him from trying to call the Scripts or other Scripts he has taken as his own.
And the only people that can really push him for copyright infringment would be Don since he runs simplyscripts he can try claim on behalf of the community as owner of SS where the scripts are hosted and or the writers of the Scripts them selves.
It will most likely come down to asking him nicely to remove the scripts and stop infringing others work and then wait a week since he is quite active on facebook, if he stops great but if you see no response the writers preferably will have to get a lawyer and go from there.
Which even if that occures it should be a walk in the park because this site is the strongest evidence that they have existed by the actual writers longer than what this dude has had his hands on them because this website has dates for which they were submitted.
Just hope that the writers also have some sort of earlier copy that can be identified as theirs with some sort of certified date date and their name attachted to it or if its been sumbitted for the whole WGA set up.

It would be nice to do this but its not advised in the case you do have to lawyer up and it has to go to court he can try to use it as harassment which makes it all alot more difficult.

Hmm....looks like the page is down now.

Anyone know the story on that?

I asked him to remove the plagiarised content.  I was very polite and I thanked him in advance for taking the material down.  Then the page disappeared.

I'm quite baffled myself.  Glad to see the page down.

I love when people call themselves writers/artist and then steal other people's work... Kind of null and voids the entire meaning of being.  True puddle of pig piss right here.  Anyways, to message the guy you have to send him a friend request and then type in a message to him that way.  He won't accept the invite, however.

Thanks, Chris.  Generally speaking, that is usually the easiest and most effective way to resolve these issues.

You can find a persons page through the search on the iPhone App and message without adding them.

hahaha....did you actually send him a message, Balt??  Please tell me you did.

Heretic was polite, I'm sure, and probably quite dull -- but if our Balt sent the guy a little love note, I sure would like to know what was in it.

Good looking out, Don.  I've always wondered what drives people to do such stupid things.

Low IQ/EQ, lack of morals and ethics, an innate desire to impress people with 'talents', attention seeking disorder, the list goes on

I had the pleasure of viewing this artisan's page before it was taken down, he seems like a really creative, multi skilled guy.

Anyway, I'm curious as to how you found out about this, Don.

One of the Facebook group members found his log lines to suddenly be uncharacteristically well written and gramatically correct, so he googled a couple of them which lead to SimplyScripts.

Hurray for social networking.

Imagine if Marlowe or Spade had Facebook in their day, oh my what sleuthing they would've gotten up to!
