The longest album I've heard recently was the Swans album, "The Seer".  It clocks in at 119 minutes (and most of those minutes are the most punishing music I've ever heard.  Great album.)

Any other long albums you've listened to?

I didn't exactly sit back and time it, but the longest album I've listened to was probably done by a local New Zealand/Australian band the Naked and Famous. Their Deluxe edition of "Passive Me, Aggressive You" goes on for ages. Not sure if deluxe editions count, though...?

The longest album I've ever heard is "Einstein on the Beach"  which clocks in at over 3 hours.

If you play a vinyl of 'Sgt.Pepper' on an older manual turntable, it will never end, as the lads put an excerpt of gibberish in the runoff groove.

Hmm.  Sergeant Pepper.  Never heard of that band.  Are they American?

Didn't Flaming Lips just do something for fifeen something hours (maybe more, I don't remember exactly) a couple years ago?  It might have just been a song, not an album though.  Either way, I'm sure it was just as boring as their regular stuff.  (P.S.  I'm not a Flaming Lips fan, although I do love 'She Don't Use Jelly'.)

The longest 'album' I remember listening to specifically is Smashing Pumpkins' 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness', though I don't know if double cd's count.

Album's that are just single cd's, I think the longest I heard was Metallica's 'And Justice For All', which I think was 73 or so minutes.

Unless I'm mistaken, a single CD can only hold up to 80 minutes.

Swans The Seer is a double CD, or a triple album, I think.

The longest -  I'm not sure, but I know it was on cassette, because when I unwound it I found it was nearly 285 feet long :) Might have been Memorex . . .

A single CD is limited, but with digital music, the album can now run uninterrupted. Now, measuring albums is like measuring anything else. Someone will have a longer one, and how do you measure it? So if you want the longest, can I submit a recording of The Ring of The Nibelung which clocks in at around 15 hours? Or do I have to break it down into its four parts, each constituting several CDs.

I mean the album itself, no matter what format it's in.  Measuring something by its format wouldn't quite be accurate, seeing as The Seer takes up two CDs but a whopping six sides of vinyl.  (If you haven't caught on by now, I'm implying you should listen to this album ;) )

I can agree that Zaireeka is a little out there, but Yosihimi and The Soft Bulletin are some of the best, trippiest albums I've ever listened to. :P
