Oh boy...and I thought Rise of the Lycans was weak 3 years ago...

Shit...where to even begin.  Well, I guess the good news is that this 4th installment of the "popular" franchise made the most money, with a WW haul of $160 Million against a bloated $70 Million budget that sure as shit isn't apparent in the finished product.

IMO, the FX on display are pure horse shit this time around.  I've never been a big fan of the Lycans' look, but here, it looks like a video game, to be honest.  IT seems that CG looks worse on TV than it does on a big theater, and I'm always surprised to see that.

The big, bad, giant Lycan was a good idea, but it looked so ridiculously fake, I was almost laughing out loud.  Seriously...WTF?

So, I have to assume that the franchise is after a very young, foolish crowd who doesn't give a shit about story or FX.  But that doesn't completely compute either, as these are R rated flicks, starring a not so young any longer Kate Beckinsale, who does still look good, but I wouldn't imagine 15-20 year old kids find her all that hot, or am I crazy?

Anyways, is there really even a reason to go into the plot?  It's weak. It's been done so many times before.  It's really all just a setup for the direction the franchise is heading going forward.  And it's all just an excuse for ridiculous action scenes featuring Selene dressed in her super tight, super sexy spandex suit, emptying her never empty guns into Lycan and human, alike in over the top scenes that look like you're watching a cartoon or video game.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the original and maybe even the sequel, but I think I'm about done now.

Very poor!

Thanks for the info.
I liked the first one and they've been declining every sequel.

I haven't seen the new one, and I guess I'll wait for the DVD.

It's been out for awhile.  I caught this on one of the movie channels.

Jeff, you have to come to terms that you are no longer in the highly coveted demographics group studios want to please. You are a lot older and more jaded than the 16-28 year olds than they seek to attract. That group grew up on games and CGI. They don't have a problem with the new films.

I was dissapointed as well here. They already have a built-in audience. They know it will make money before they even release it. It's a sure win! That's why the 70 million dollar budget got the okay. I agree with Jeff, I don't know where all that money went.

She's still on my laminated list! She looked great in Total Recall.

I'd love to laminate Miss Beckinsale as well, but you and I aren't 15-20 years old, either.

Pia, I'm a bit confused by your comments.  Are you saying because I am not the intended demographic, I should just say it's great for younger audiences, or my opinion means nothing and it's a great movie because it made money?

Alot of pure crap garbage shit makes money...is that really all that matters these days?

No reason to get offended, Jeff. All I'm saying is, movies are a business and you and I are not the people the studios try to reach...most of the time. And yes, money is all that matters...most of the time. At least IMHO.

The second screenplay I've ever written. Total Underworld fan-fic! Terrible writing, but still one of my fave stories...

Wish the sequels had teeth like this. I loved the Selene character.
