Here is the first trailer for Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion, the new futuristic sci-fi starring Tom Cruise.

Looks decent enough.

With a title and trailer as generic as all that, I dunno why this movie got made.
Is it just me, or did everything feel like it was at 80% speed here.

Honestly...
It felt like Wall-E with guns.

Instead of fatties on a pizza spaceship, they're refugees in caves or something.
I guess either it's not Earth at all OR TOm's actually working for the aliens. Hmmm.

Eh. I don't really know what to say at this point other than eh. Looks a bit underwhelming.

Bit perplexed at the talk of this looking pedestrian. Like pretty much everything released (indie or studio), this will walk on an existing tread. Kosinski definitely showed an impressive eye in the Daft Punk-tinged TRON - add the charm of Cruise, and hopefully another impressive score, and this should be a good choice for cinema goers all over. If you're expecting something groundbreaking or Oscar baiting, you need to recalibrate your expectations!

Not sure that suit wins me over - looks like a cheapo out of the 1980's doctor who series. Or is the Michelin man or is it for blow up sumo wrestling?

The whole "Earth is a Memory" thing has got me thinking, kooky plot twists.
Did anyone else get that vibe?

Like, it's Earth of the distant past.
Ha! Take that, creation myth! ;D

Between this and "After Earth", I think I've had my fill of Earth with a Twist.
A double dose of that next summer? Gurgle.

Doesn't look too bad, a fun ride. I'll keep an eye on this.

Looks like good entertaining; without anything ground-breaking. I'm still a fan of Cruise and I would go into this without any high expectations.

I thought it funny that Tom Cruise is coming out with this one about the same time that Will & Jaden Smith are coming out with After Earth.  Having seen the trailers for both, I think Oblivion will be the more successful of the two... though I think both will tank in the box office.

I assume that SMith will take his usual July slot with this one.
Felt the April street date for Oblivion was telling.
You don't position your good tentpoles in mid-April.

That's about as big a red flag as having Die Hard on Valentine's Day! ;D

After Earth opens in July.  Another thing that tells me that this film will fail?  Three simple words:

M

Knight

Shyamalan
