Got this on DVD for Christmas. Meant to go and see it when it was on at the cinema, but being that it was Norweigian, I wasn't able to make it to a cinema which was showing it (my local cinema sucks, unless you're trying to see Twilight, or whatever else the general public lap up with little regard for anything thing else. In that case, you're in luck).

The main character - Roger Brown - is a corporate headhunter, who also moonlights as an art thief, to fund his wife's lavish lifestyle. Brown does so, because he is insecure about himself and doesn't believe his wife will love him if he didn't spoil her. He hears wind of a super-rare, expensive painting being stored in the apartment of a new-guy-in-town, and so he plans to steal it. But the new-guy is not what it seems, and basically, in the words of Martin Lawrence in Bad Boys, "shit gets real".

But damn, this film blew me away. It's based on a book by a brilliant Norweigian writer called Jo Nesbo. I'd read some of his stuff before, so knew I was in good hands. But still, the intricacies of the plot, and the amount of forshadowing throughout absolutely astonished me. Every scene, and piece of information, no matter how small and seemingly insignificant at the time, has a purpose. The film starts of as a relatively standard heist thriller, but by the end of it, you know you have just watched something far superior than that.

I cannot recommend it highly enough. I wish I wrote it!

I'll second everything Toby has just said, this is a terrific thriller - fast paced, full of twists and turns, and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. It also has a wicked streak of black humor that runs through it, and I don't think I'll ever be able to use an outhouse without checking under the seat for a protruding toilet roll tube.

I really liked this movie, although it fell down a tiny bit at the climax, for me. Great black humour, some wonderful visuals, and lots of great thrills, though.

Nice one, Tobe. Headhunters is fantastic. More maverick work from those beautiful Scandinavians. Together with The Hunt, The Raid and The Dark Knight Rises, I have 4 films I'm wrestling with for film of the year. Zero Dark Thirty has me lit up like a Christmas tree in expectation, though.

The director appears to be tackling that Scriptshadow script next. He has plenty credit in the tank after this slice of fantastic - have to disagree on the ending, though, Chris. Catharsis and suitable ending, for me.

I enjoyed this nimble thriller tons.
The dramatic irony of the headhunter being headhunted by Jamie Lannister rocked!

The cat and mouse up until the climax was very edge of your seat.
Love the lead fella who's also featured in Max Manus. Very charismatic.

And I'll never look at outhouses the same EVER again. :P

Fair enough! Re-reading this review made me want to watch the movie again, actually. I just wasn't quite feelin' it. I definitely thought it was suitable, it just didn't pack the punch, for me. But I'd like to try it again -- should buy the flick, really, now that it's out here.
