Got to some trailers this weekend, and the theater was packed, so got to evaluate crowd reaction.

Zero Dark Thirty

What surprised me was that either the trailer was really poorly put together, or the movie might be not quite what I expected. I pay attention to trailers at the theater, and I actually like them. They have my full attention.

But I found my mind wandering during this trailer. What would happen during the movie?

All I could take from the trailer was this: it's about the hunt for Bin Laden. And there's a young woman who seems to be the only one interested in that hunt.

But the trailer managed to make all of this very uninteresting. I didn't expect that.

Identity Thief

This was like the fourth in a series of trailers, and the first three got yawns from the audience. But this one had the crowd rolling in the aisles! I mean they should have showed it twice. It was hilarious.

I know sometimes comedies don't live up to the trailer, but I suspect that will not be the case here. Despite the preposterous premise, not only does it seem loaded with laughs, but it feels like this movie has heart. I've never seen the show Mike and Molly, so I am not familiar with Melissa McCarthy, but I can see where she is going to really win the audience by the end of this one.

The Heat

And another McCarthy feature, this one with Sandra Bullock. This one also looks half decent, but I don't know if I'd risk $10 admission. Again it's McCarthy that draws the laughs, but Bullock will resonate with the female audience.

There were other trailers I saw(I saw two films this weekend), but I can't even remember what they were. Oh, wait, just remembered one.

The Lone Ranger

I don't know about this one. Maybe. Johnny Depp as Tonto actually looks kinda cool. But I don't know about the premise. A deputy learns he can't be killed and he's mentored by Tonto, who as an Indian understands these things. So the deputy becomes the Lone Ranger, and rides a magical tree climbing horse. I'm sure this film will be full of action and silliness.

I have to agree with you, Kev.
Identity Thief looked like the much better comedy.

Now we're starting to get those post-Bridesmaids performances from her.
So, we'll see if she's just basking in the star power or still got a sharp wit.
Her and Bateman's straight man routine should be a funny combo.

IMO, she's like the female Zack Galifianakis.
