I was recently blessed with the recommendation of CLOUD ATLAS for my delight and more... a proof that exotic entertainment does still exist.

Anyone who knows me also knows that I am extremely selective in the movies I am willing to watch. Yes, I will sit down with friends/family (at times) and be present for "some shows", but most often it is to be present "with" them and not to watch a regurgitation of a regurgitation.

For anyone who is impressed by a strong "living" visual artistic
experience that might truly exceed anything they have formerly experienced, this movie might be exciting (no, spiritually touching) for you to watch-- if for no other reason than to give your own critique and alternative suggestions as to how it might have went. (Even if only for the helluvit) I would be interested in hearing them, positive or negative, since I find this story (multiple stories) compelling on all levels.

For myself, personally, I felt a "Dickens" vibe going on mixed in with Final Fantasy and Matrix.

It would be interesting to hear from the "keeners" on Simply. What did you take from this movie? Could you imagine it live? As in Cats? Could you imagine a music score? What would it be? How could you mix the times and remain true to the tone? If you mixed the music, would it overtake the emotions and detract from the actors on stage? etc... etc... etc...

What was the theme? (In your opinion)

Was there more than one?

Did this movie reference any other movies?

Did the scene with the old men "breaking out" of Aurora house reflect back on
another book/movie you have encountered?

Could you see this film being studied by high school/college students in the future?

Why?

I would love to hear your comments on this film and others like it that somehow seem to focus on intangibles. For example: in this movie:

The intangible was:  A CHOICE

Sandra,

Where have you been hiding--?  Yeah, why am I not surprised you liked it,  it's epic and poetic.  Yeah, the wife loved it as well, me not so much, but it was entertaining...

...everything we do today, connects us to the past.  The fact that the film used love as a universal constant, fair enough, but here I just found it hard to believe, becasue most of the romances just felt underdeveloped.  It just didn't feel real.  But then again, stories about romance do little for me.

Having said that, I applaud the filmmakers' bold attempt to bring this to the big screen-- they took a tremendous chance here.  Connecting storylines,  one's spanning thousand of years, is a tough puppy to pull off.

Anyway, good to see you pop back in, even if it's only for a New York minute.

Ghost, I too, have to ask myself "what" it is that draws me into certain films. In truth, I don't have the answer. This one does rate for me, one of the best in a lifetime. It speaks to me, personally, on a level that I can't equate with words and I respect all of the people involved with its making.

Where have I been? I've been taking advice from people on Simply: From Babz: And I really do recommend this to every writer, (screen or otherwise) ::::: Live your life! gudammit! And (from me) perform lotza mitzvot!!! What the hell else is there?  :)

Many critiques have mentioned I should go to novel. Well... I'm not giving up on screenwriting, but I'm taking time to develop something close to heart in a sub-novel interpretation and perhaps in the future collaborate with someone again since I really don't like to work alone.

I still do critiques in the background even if they are not listed on the boards. I will provide honest feedback and be happy to provide "spins" on a subject.

Hey... where the heck is Rendevous? I miss that guy.

Anyways, to CLOUD ATLAS and all those involved--

I really really loved the work here. This is a movie I will watch over and over.

If it ever were developed for stage, I'd line up for tickets.

Sandra
