Let me say this, I am a HUGE fan of the original trilogy and don't have high hopes for this new remake coming out.

The draft I read was the one before Diablo Cody got her hipster hands on.

Anways, despite my low expectations, I actually liked it. Instead of ASH, we get a bunch of new characters, David, Eric, Mia, Olivia and Natalie. Those with keen eyes will see that these characters name spell out DEMON.

There are some in jokes to Raimi's other films, two characters are in a band called "The Darkmans" I had a chuckle at that. Then of course they have some throw back lines to the original films. One of the characters has a dog, so I had a frown on my face as soon as I saw that, knowing that the dog most likely won't make it out alive.

The film start off with the deadite, so there is no real build up, we are thrown into the chaos from the start. The characters go there because one is detoxing from some drugs. It feels like a genuine gore fest with some gruesome images, right up any horror fan's alley.

So I dug it, until the third act, which comes out of nowhere and feels more like a monster chase movie than an Evil Dead film. The film takes this weird direction in that climax and kinda falls apart. It ends with a classic "gotcha" twist which kind of makes the climax sequences inane.

There are some questionable moments in the script that don't really add up, but as far as a horror genre stuck in a cabin script goes, this one does well enough.

I suspect the only real stuff that changes is the character dialogue so everyone sounds like Juno.

I just wanna pop in and say i loved it! Even the climax with the weird monster. :) Though I do hope they lose the AFTER CREDITS scene. It's not bad... It's just not very surprising.

Ha...I did not catch that.  Funny.

I did catch that -- and had the same reaction.

I actually liked that angle alot.  Gave them an actual "reason" to be there -- helped build some sympathy for the characters -- and also served to provide some doubt about what one of the characters was actually experiencing.  A really good device and they utilized it well.

The script itself reads well enough.  I am not a Cody-hater, and frequently enjoy what she can do with dialogue, so we'll see.  Some of the dialogue could use a little more punch, quite frankly.

Personally, I was a little disappointed with the script-treatment of the iconic "tree rape" scene.  It is blink-and-you-miss-it in the script -- although the red-band trailer promises a bit more.  This scene is one of the main reasons I wanted to look at the script, and this scene disappoints.

The "after credits" scene is trash.  So stale.  **Yawns**  They'll lose that -- or at least change it -- if they have any sense at all.

I also agree that the climax went to a weird place.  Dimished the script a bit, to me, but it really depends what the folks behind the cameras do with it.

I had my doubts out of the gate, but on the whole -- and based on the promise of the trailer -- this might not be half-bad at all.

I only read the first 10-15 pages.
Didn’t want to spoil anything.
I’ll check it out after I see the movie.

I really enjoyed the script I read a while back. :)

Just saw the film and they stay pretty true to the script. A scene here or there is different and some of the inside jokes (The Darkmans bit was taken out :( ) but overall exactly what one would expect.

And I can't really see Diablo Cody's changes, if any.

My cousin and I were having a discussion about this movie.  He commented that the remake will be nothing without Bruce Campbell.  I had to remind him that Bruce didn't get snarky until the second movie.  The original was just a straight-forward, low budget horror.
