Something to aspire to with short film writing...

This is the promised land for short films. I met Shawn once, briefly, at a play that one of the cast members of GA was doing. I'm rooting for him to bring this home. This should give us all hope...

Be interested to know what budget they had for this short. The answer about building an ad-hoc camera for the bathroom suggests there was a wee bit of capital behind it. Not to impugn, but to highlight the chasm between this short and 99% of shorts that are made.

Not sure of the budget Andrew however I'm sure they had more than the usual micro-budget short - and yes I'm bumping this because about 2 hours ago Shawn won the Oscar for best short film...

I was pulling for him last night.
Must be a huge thrill!

Now, the big question...
What's next for him? ;D

Hi Brett - I don't really know Shawn, only met him briefly, once, but he's a good friend of several of the people attached to Grand Avenue, so I was pulling for him as well.

All I know is that he's now developing a feature version of CURFEW. Beyond that? I'm sure he'll get to direct his own features now, and will be able to attract a high level of talent to his projects.

It just goes to show that not everything in the non-traditional Oscar categories needs to be in black and white, or foreign, or deeply weird. A kid from NY - writing, directing and starring in a moving and heartfelt story - can get it done...

That's great!

Some past winners of the shorts category have gone on to do great things. I doubt Martin McDonagh could have obtained the funding for In Bruges had he not won it a couple of years back with his brilliant short, Six Shooter.

And I second Andrew's point; I'd love to know what the budget for this one was.
