I'll throw my hat in for Argo as the movie that SHOULD win Best picture.  It was a very intense and enjoyable movie...the only thing that really bothered me is that Ben Affleck's character was hispanic in real life so they should have gotten an hispanic actor to play that role.  I do generally like Ben Affleck as an actor though (I just don't like every performance he has given as an actor).

In regards to best animated film...Franken Wennie SHOULD win.  It was enjoyable to watch (and I am a full-grown adult) and it was visually stunning.

Lincoln was sooooooo torturous to get through.  It bothers me it will probably win best picture.  Here's hoping Argo pulls through.

ONEY

Well, I have to say how stoked I am Django landed double Oscars!
Life of Pi was a pleasant surprise with four statues.
Little surprised Silver Linings only came away with one victory.
Seems like Oscar spread around the shiny love this year.
And a film wins Best Picture w/o a director nom and didn't win the most statues.

Not too sure on the whole Seth McFarlane though.
The Captain Kirk thing wasn't too bad. :P

I have to say I was pretty impressed by the Oscars this year. My predictions appear a lot more cynical now than I had anticipated.

I'm particularly very surprised and happy how many snags Life of Pi was able to pull. Out of all the Oscar buzz films this year, I think it was easily the most overlooked. A true masterpiece (Ang Lee's best) and one of the most sophisticated "spectacle" films I've seen in a long time. I also think out of all the films with Best Director noms, Life of Pi easily would've been the hardest to make so I think Ang Lee's win was more than deserved.

The biggest triumph for me was Michael Haneke winning an Oscar. Amour is a near perfect film and Haneke's best. I love that it's gotten so much exposure and hope the award can yield Haneke some opportunities that he otherwise might not have had.

Also, it was cool to hear him speak English, finally. Probably the first and last time I'll see this happen.

Emannuelle Riva seemed like a sure thing for Best Actress but I'm happy for Jennifer Lawrence to have gotten it. She's had a pretty impressive filmography thus far and deserves the recognition. She also gave a shoutout to Riva, which I thought was pretty cool.

McFarlane was lame and annoying but I think he's a good fit for the Oscars in that they both have an affinity for old Hollywood and showtunes and... are both lame and annoying. I guess he has a decent voice as well from an objective standpoint. The Captain Kirk gag was baffling and also bafflingly unfunny but I've seen more excruciating, for sure.

What can I say? 2012 was a phenomenal year for film so it's only natural the 2012 Oscars would be a cut above the past few ceremonies.

I thought McFarlane was a great choice...until the ceremony got rolling. Over half his jokes were duds, the other half were inappropriate. Rape jokes.  The thing with the Nazi. (I'm sorry, I still don't get it) and the Lincoln assassination joke. (To which he missed the point of why it wasn't funny.)

But my biggest problem was the presenters overall. I don't know if it was McFarlane who wrote the stuff they were supposed to say, but it seemed that many didn't like what they read off the teleprompters. I mean, when First Lady Michelle Obama - who has no business presenting even via sat feed - is the most coherent speaker of the evening ?  Something's up.

Jack Nicholson is Jack Nicholson so he has a legit excuse.

- A tribute to Bond. Meh. Although Shirley Bassey was a highlight.
I liked the shout out to musicals- the cast of Les Mis in specific.
Best Presenters: Channing Tatum and Jennifer Aniston.

As mentioned, Life Of Pi was getting some awards...and I was starting to think maybe there might be a surprising upset. I'm not sad that Argo won Best Pic- and I doubt the Jaws music would have cut off Affleck. (Last award; he could take a breath) But if I didn't feel that way I would have clicked channels (DVRd Walking Dead anyway)

I'm not sure what Kristen Stewart's deal is, but it seemed to me that she is playing a part that she thinks works for her.

The only real whacked out star I saw was Renee Zellweger.  SHe was obviously hammered or on something. She was swaying noticeably, had a wasted look on her face, and couldn't even read the winner when Gere showed her the card.

Was happy with who won. Everyone took home something and rightfully so (with the exception of Beasts of the Southern Wild but who gives two s hits?) Waltz and Haneke winning were the highlights for me. However I was super pissed about best animated film. Brave? Are you f ucking kidding me? Hands down, the worst of the batch. I'm assuming the academy simply didnt watch the other animated noms.

But onto McFarlane. Anyone who knows me, knows that I freaking hate the s hit out of that man. F ucking hate Family Guy, f ucking hate American Dad, f ucking hate Cleveland Show. Havent seen Ted because I heard it's pretty good and then I'd hate myself for liking McFarlane. So I was watching the oscars with baited breath, just waiting for him to fail miserably.

I actually thought his performance was pretty mediocre overall. After coming down from the franco fiasco, how could you do any worse? McFarlane wasn't terrible but he wasn't anything special. In fact, I felt like he played it safe. To make matters worse, he shyed away from many of his jokes. Felt like he was very timid and scared of the audience the entire time. If you're going to say something brash and wild, then say something brash and wild. Don't mumble it to yourself. As for the public's backlash? I think it's somewhat warranted. But what did you expect to happen?

As for the show, I thought it was one of the most disorganized shows to ever air. Presenters stumbled, monologues were skipped, and half the time, the audience had no idea what was going on. Did Sam Jackson cut off Robert Downey Jr? Still don't know what happened there.
