So I'd heard about this movie but never thought about watching it until I saw the brilliant Mark Gatiss TV documentary Horror Europa.  He showed a few clips and said how good the movie was so I thought, why not.

I can't believe I waited so long to see such a good movie.  For anyone that doesn't know the movie it's a French Thriller/horror from 1955 but don't let that put you off.  It reminded me so much of a Hitchcock film and then I read that he actually tried to get the rights to make it but narrowly missed out.  I'm not going to say much about the story as I wouldn't want to spoil it but it is probably the best suspense movie I've seen.  It is a tad slow in the beginning but then it just feels really eerie throught and you're never quite sure what the outcome will be.

I think it's a real good film to watch for all us screenwriters too as it has only a handful of actors and few locations but it never gets dull and it will suck you in to the story right to the end.

I saw this movie a few months ago and I was totally blown away. Definitely a lot like Hitchcock. I don't want to give much away, but some parts almost felt like black comedy, to me. Pretty much everything about the disposal of the body... the trunk scene, the drive home, etc.

For a horror film, and for its time, I was impressed with almost every aspect... from the story to the acting to the cinematography. Definitely deserves to be up there with Psycho and other pioneers of the genre.

Didn't see the original, but I did catch the remake, Diabolique, with Sharon Stone in the mid-90's, which was decent, but  no classic.

Where did you catch the original?

I know what you mean about the trunk scene, and the couple upstairs listening to the radio.

Some movies today are just awful with eleborate stories that make no sense.  This has a simple story but is so entertaining.  It's fantastic.

I dunno about Alffy, but I got the blu-ray from Criterion. It's a great version. Completely restored.

I don't plan on seeing the remake. The original was perfect.

I hear the remake is pretty bad.  I borrowed it but I think I'm going to have to buy a copy.
