Well, it's been about six months since we started our last one and with the 7WC on its way out, it's high time we started another one.

Currently, I've spent a couple weeks considering ideas and came up with only one that's working thus far. However, if anyone is interested in doing this, feel free to throw out any ideas of your own for a Killer game.

As it stands, the idea is that the shadowy head of a international crime syndicate puts out the highest bounty of all time for one target, $28 million, which attracts the most high profile collection of hitmen in the world to his Colorado estate for one weekend.

Of course, as I said, it you guys are interested in playing, but not the idea, I'm open to any and all suggestions. I'm looking for at least 8-10 people who might be interested in playing. Look out for the game to start (barring enough players) on or around May 5th, so everyone has enough time to finish their 7WC scripts and review others. Hope to see you here. =)

I'd like to give this a go, I'm always up for a challenge.

The idea itself sounds good.

Now, we just need some more psychopathic killers running loose and we'll have ourselves a little game. =)

Not trying to be  killjoy, Mr. Blonde, but this concept has kinda been done to death.  No pun intended.  Might wanna try to conjur up something a little more original., IMO

How 'bout something more to do with current events?  After a crimeboss's daughter is killed in a street bombing, he puts up a 28 million dollar bounty to whoever catches the bomber.

Then of course there's the poor schmuck who's mistaken as the bomber, but he isn't, and he has to run for his life.

Just my two cents.

Michael, you've played the Killer game before, right? I thought you had but maybe you didn't. It's a collaborative game played by people on this site that is written one part at a time. It's not really a structured plot in what you seem to be thinking.

Just for example, this was the last one we played:

Ah, got it.  It's all coming back to me now.   Posted directly to the thread.   I hate that.     :(

It's okay, Michael. =)

The Killer game was always something I thought was very fun, so I asked Michael 2 if I could run one and he said absolutely. You should take part because it's not a competition. Just a fun writing exercise. =)

Actually he's Michael 1 and I'm Michael 3, but yeah, I suppose it's a matter of perspective.   The game that is.   I might play along.  Sign me up as a conflicted Bible-thumping hitman.
Posted by: Mr. Blonde, April 19th, 2013, 2:24pm; Reply: 8
Kind of like the Christian version of Thane Krios. In my opinion, one of the coolest hitmen ever created. But, you're still Michael 1 to me. Lol.

By the way, if you are interested, I'm going to need a slightly better description  than that. But, not just yet. For a good idea on creating characters, I shall link you to this:

Awesome, Mohammad. I think we will before all is said and done. From the look of things, we have four who seem somewhat interested. Hoping to get about 8-10, but more is always going to be good times. =)

im in for another killer game

i like the idea about everyone creating their own hitman

----

just an idea....

if you wanted to switch it up a bit.... instead of 'who done it'
this could be like a survivor game.... we each create a character hitman/soldier... as part of a unit assigned to a high-risk mission....

similar to the normal game...but instead of "who is the killer" its "who will be the last one left?" and of course... you are hoping it is your character

the game-runner establishes the writing order before the game (to keep it fair).... we each take our turn like normal (reguardless if our character is alive or dead)... killing 1 character per scene (writer's choice)

once it gets down towards the end...we can have some sort of a vote

To be honest, Penoyer, a lot of what you're suggesting is already a part of the Killer game. The creating a character part, having it be about who's the last one left, establishing the order beforehand and the rest of it, so I'm not sure what you're actually suggesting.

The only differences I can find are the high risk unit part and the voting at the end part. I take issue with both of those in some way. First of all, the high risk unit works well as its own thing, possibly a future Killer game (could theoretically be anything from Predator to Zero Dark Thirty), but I don't think it works in conjunction with this idea. However, if people would rather do that one than the hitmen, that's perfectly cool with me. As for the voting at the end, the problem is that it takes the game out of the hands of the person who writes the final scene and makes it rather predictable to know beforehand. In the two I've participated in, we tried that (in a secret vote) with "Murder on the Simply Express" and I thought the ending suffered a bit for it. With "Martian Madness", it was the writer's decision and it made for a more interesting ending. Just my belief, though.

I would like to welcome you to the game (if you are, indeed, participating), Penoyer. =)

Well, IMO, having everyone being the same type of character (a hitman), makes for alot less character in all the characters.

I felt like using the word "character" as many times as I could there.   ;D ;D ;D

The reason that the Lake Simply game was one of, if not the very best ever, was because there were so many diverse characters in a rather casual, normal setting.  When you change that up, you lose that normalcy that I think a game like this needs.

Off the top of my head, I'd stick a bunch of normal everyday peeps in a shopping mall or the like and lock them in.

You know, I did pick up what you were putting down there, Jeff. When I was thinking hitmen, I was thinking something in the vein of "Smokin' Aces". Not a great, or even good, movie but all the hitmen in it felt unique in their own ways. However, I will agree that the best Killer games were the ones where everyone was different. What I wasn't a huge fan of with Lake Simply, was that it wasn't really a contained location. The general idea worked, but the openness, I thought, detracted.

I do agree with you, though, and admit that the original idea was a bunch of random people get invited to a mansion, but it carried too much of an either "Clue" or "House on Haunted Hill" vibe and it would just be a retread.

However, if you guys like the sound of this, we can roll with it. If you want something more exact, we can set up a vote, with several ideas and majority rules. I'm just the conductor on this gravy train. You guys are the ones who bought the tickets (throwback to "Murder on the Simply Express", my favorite Killer game).

Might wanna consider dropbox instead of posting directly to the thread, then when it's all said and done and if the script is solid enough, you can be pitch it to Babz.   Kill two birds with one script.

That was something that once occurred to me, but it doesn't need to be put in Dropbox. Literally, it can be copied straight back into Final Draft. I have a lot of patience to put it back together. That said, when the game is over, if people liked the way it came out, the script can be made into a real script if you guys want to go that route. The possibilities are endless.

what locations have been used already?

Train, Mars Station, Lakeside resort.....

what else?
Posted by: Mr. Blonde, April 23rd, 2013, 11:05am; Reply: 24
Cruise ship. I believe there's only been four of the actual Killer game. Although, there have been lots of other games/exercises: Thief, Shiva and SoulShadows, among others.

As for locking people in a mall, that's certainly going to stretch the suspension of disbelief, but there's ways around that.
Posted by: Dreamscale (Guest), April 23rd, 2013, 11:20am; Reply: 25
Personally, I'm not remotely interested in turning this into an actual script, as the quality of writing and even ideas is low, based on the small amount of time between turns.

As for locking peeps in a mall or the like, it could be a few different scenarios.

The killer wants to kill.

There was an earlier killing and the cop on duty locked the place down so no potential killer could escape.

Electrical malfunction due to a killer storm outside.

Or, it could simply be due to Kate Beckinsale.

Sold. Lol.

I do like the idea of a mall with all the available options and things like that, but none of those would actually lock down the mall. Perhaps it could be one of those things that's never directly explained?

Then again, I had mentioned a high school reunion (in place of the Mars one) but Michael had said it was already done in Thief. It's another option, but I don't know how much you guys might want to roll with that one, because it's got the same logical problems of locking down the school as you have with the mall.

Lots of time left to decide on a permanent location, though.

Marrying the different ideas floating around out there, I come up with this:

The world's best assassins lured to the Overlook Hotel with the promise of a fat contract by their contractor, a wealthy oil tycoon who barely survived a recent assassination attempt and wants to suss out which one of these killers was behind it. But someone in the group is not who they seem, an imposter using this opportunity to eliminate as much of the competition as possible to secure their place as the number one gun for hire.

It's Assassins meets Hannibal meets The Shining.  8)

i know its been done before but lets cut to the chase of what we want...

while flying over the pacific...a fuel leak forces a plane to make an emergency landing on a deserted island... with a bounty of lost pirate treasure.

you got isolation
dreamscales joe schmoe cast
sex appeal location
and a who-done-it killer with a motive (greed)

bam done.

So basically it's Survivor meets Treasure Island and Scream.

Yikes.

Any mimes?

On a serious note, the island is a bad idea, IMO,  How about borrowing from wonkavites' script and make it a storage facility.   The entire story would take place in one night.

An island is a nice setting as it serves many purposes.  Cool setting, different areas, ability to be alone, the ocean, even chance of escape.

If we do this, I think we'll need a number of other characters that whoever is writing can utilize, kill, have island sex with, etc.  We need chickies for sure - maybe we should gte Stevie involved, as he's basically a chick already.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

What about that wild and crazy Pia chick?  She likes to play...

Dialogue stays equally simple with the additions of the mimes.

I'd prefer my character to be an older male Polar Bear.  I think I can bring some pretty radical character arcs.

Seems you guys were busy while I was gone. That's a good thing. Conversation breeds opinions.

So, is that kind of what we've agreed on, now? Plane crashes on an island with some kind of mysterious treasure on it? Personally, I'd drop the treasure thing and just make it a survival thing. That's just me, though.

Michael seems interested in making it a storage facility. Do you have any additional plot to go with that, or are you kind of just spitballing ideas?

Jeff, if you want to try and get Pia and Stevie in here, by all means. I mean, this is not some game that's invitation only.

Penoyer, it's likely that the hitmen thing is out the window if we're doing the island thing. That's just a shade too convenient.

But, please try and keep things on topic for now, while we're still deciding what you'd like the game to actually be. Tomorrow, regardless of which game is inevitably chosen, I'm going to discuss a couple ground rules. =)
Posted by: Penoyer79, April 23rd, 2013, 11:18pm; Reply: 44
i wouldnt say anything is agreed on yet...  we'll see what the masses want... and if we cant come to a consesus you can make an executive decision

i threw the gold in there for motive for people to start offing eachother... but we can do whatever

as for the island... i noticed 3 of the 4 games have been indoors... i figure we need to get out in the open again.... not to mention the fact when you got people stuck on an island - they cant just flee when the killing starts... everyone is forced to face it and deal with it.

and like jeff says - and i agree- when you got regular joe schmoes dealing with a survival situation -its lends itself more to character...

where as hitmen... it gets a little thin... especially when none of them are likely going to be afraid of dying
Posted by: Mr. Blonde, April 24th, 2013, 8:20pm; Reply: 45
It seems to me that for the most part, you guys have agreed (or, at least, swayed) that the hitman thing is gone and has been replaced with people on a tropical island. So, from what I've heard from people, there's two ways to go about this:

Option A: People crash land on the island and it becomes a survival game (a la "Lost"), while still following the same vibe as all the other killer games of killing a person when it's your turn.

Option B: People travel to a tropical island and participate in a "Survivor"-style game which takes a violent turn into "The Condemned"/"The Hunger Games" territory with the same basic set-up from option A.

These are not set in stone, if anyone has any other ideas they might want to roll with, shout 'em out.
Posted by: Dreamscale (Guest), April 24th, 2013, 8:28pm; Reply: 46
I go with Option B, with a "treasure hunt" as the reason they're all "competing".

Where are all the ladies?????  We'll have to have stock characters around and available for each writer to use, move around, and even kill.

Completely agree. That is the best moment of the game is watching the characters that get created. The actual story is usually a mixed bag, at best, but I always loved the differing characters. Good call, Penoyer.

Im going with Option A....simply because the character i have in mind doesnt fit as well with option B. haha. but i'll go with whatever.

im pretty sure the statue of limitation on LOST owning the "plane crashes on island" plot has passed.

its simply a means of stranding/trapping unwitting strangers on an isolated location.

i would have suggested a boat....but a boat has already been used in the game before.

Well, Penoyer, that's one for "Plane crashes on an island" and that's one for "People partake in a violent entertainment TV show on an island". Need some more votes, guys, if you want to decide.

Or maybe the group is going to the tropical island for a porn shoot.  The plane doesn't have to crash.

Once they land, one of the guys breaks the plane's consoles with his member, thus, they're "trapped".

Or the plane's controls could get destroyed by an unseen character, who may be the killer!

I just personally think a crash is such a weak setup that's just been done to death again and again.

I can't participate in this. All my spare time lately is taken up trying to console other broken hearted Packer fans with my member.

Sabotage...to create suspicion... distrust... a witch hunt...

I like it.

How about crashing in the Arctic instead of on a tropical island? Give an old concept a fresh coat of paint.

Rene,

Tomorrow, I'm going to roll the game and rules out. I still have some deciding to do on a couple of things and I'll bring it to this thread when I do. You guys will know when I know. I'm going to be a day behind, but it's because I'm having a bitch of a time putting an actual plot together considering what you guys seem to want. But, we'll get into this in more detail tomorrow.

you don't need to please everyone when putting the game together...

just me.

;D

cant be that hard...  just a bunch of people on a plane/boat that end up on an island... either for a common cause or because they're stranded.

keep it simple.

it's just a game

Agree.

Also, when you're in the Arctic or the like, you're not going to have the luxury of being in many or any EXT scenes.

It gets stuck in a "The Thing" or "Whiteout" mode and I don't think we want that.

All right, time to settle this once and for all. I have settled on a possible idea for the Killer game idea. Just so we're clear, the majority seem to be in agreement that the game will take place on a deserted tropical island. This will be merged with the other idea of a "Survivor"-type reality/game show.

Plot: The participants and crew of the popular reality television series "Deserted", en route to an uninhabited island, Aekonis, crash land in the Pacific Ocean. The survivors make it to shore, but have no way to call out for help and things get worse when they discover that the plane was sabotaged. Tension mounts and suspicions arise when the survivors discover one of the passengers wanted the plane brought down.

If this sounds good to you, please say so and certainly let me know if it doesn't.

Everyone interested in playing, please respond to this thread as Character Creation begins tomorrow. Thank you. =)
