Gotta say 2013 is already shaping up to be just as good, if not better than 2012. The worst film so far was directed by Danny Boyle, two of my favorites came from directors I hate, the next generation of Cronenberg is on the horizon, and apparently the heavy hitters have yet to show their stuff. Not too shabby.
Needless to say, stoked for this one.

I wonder if this is a remake of Open Water in space.
I'm excited for this, as brief and unrevealing as the trailer is, it was still very effective. My first thought was Open Water in space as well, but I enjoyed Open Water for what it was, I know that movie has a lot of mixed reactions.
George Clooney seems to choose great movies, which really raises my hopes for this movie. I'm a Sandra Bullock fan but mostly when it comes to comedy, I have a hard time visualizing her in serious roles but she has proven she has the ability with The Blind Side. I'm not sure what it is, but when I hear her voice I just want to see her in all of her goofy glory.
From what I've heard via the internet world, the script for this movie is fantastic and so far the visuals look impressive as well, so this is definitely on my to-see list and I hope it doesn't disappoint.

And IMDB only lists 4 actors... Not sure if that's the final count but Christ, I honestly have no idea how the budget is so high.

Despite not being the biggest fan of either sci-fi (although I loved Moon), or Sandra Bullock, I have been looking forward to this since it was announced, as I am a huge fan of Cuaron's previous work. Y tu mamá también and Children of Men were exceptional.
Despite not revealing too much in the way of plot, apart from the inciting incident, the trailer has further increased my anticipation for this.
The visuals here are absolutely stunning.

I might not be a sci-fi fan anymore, but Ray Bradbury had me intrigued when I was younger.
I just checked wiki and imdb to see if they gave him a nod... nothing yet.

'The Illustrated Man', (the short story collection 'Kaleidoscope' is from), is one of my favorite books of all time. It's a definite recommend if you ever come across it.

I wasn't going to say anything initially about the budget, because I figured casting them was probably why the budget was so high, but then I also saw that the producers turned down Angelina Jolie for the role because she wanted 20 million. Plus, they're the only 2 actors in the whole thing, (the other 2 actors are just voices), so there's really not a regular cast they had to worry about.
Word is the effects are spectacular, though, so who knows.

Bullock can do drama. She was excellent in Murder by Numbers, for which she got lauded for going against type. It's a solid film that sort of slipped under the radar but Bullock got due credit critically speaking.
I'm not a fan of Clooney but he's not bad and this seems like a different role for him. He was also in Solaris so maybe it's due time he redeemed himself in the sci-fi realm.
I think Cuaron's name is enough to get me on board, frankly, but the concept is just superb. One of my greatest fears actually. Glad they finally made a movie about it.
I can see the similarities but I don't think that's the case. Regardless, I think getting stranded in space is way scarier. Someone can find you in the ocean. Nobody's finding you in space. Granted there's no treading water for hours on end but I'm sure it's an equally long, excruciating death.

Indeed, Clooney and Sandra probably took a sizable chunk of that. Also, according to the link, there's talk of 20-minute long takes throughout the film. If that's true, that means major post-production work on top of all that CGI. That ain't cheap.

Clooney is definitely capable of commanding 15+ million... but he also isn't above taking a pay cut to help get a film made....see his 350k salary for Syriana.
honestly I don't see him and Sandra Bullock commanding more then 20-30 between them in this film....
im guessing that 80million is mostly CGI

Didn't realise Bullock was in it. Hard to see the actors faces in the trailer, tho George stood out.
They could've hired anyone really if they wear the helmets the whole time, save money, lol

Working with a couple of guys who worked on this. This was crewed up back in 2011 and I believe it overran. That's gonna kill your budget, especially on the above the line costs.
