Hey guys, my 1st produced feature The Suicide Theory is just about finished with final edits and will getting 1st look from some pretty big sales agents very soon. Exciting times! The script was originally posted here back in 2008.

The film probably won't be seen by the general public until late 2013/throughout 2014 as it makes its rounds at the mid to major international film festivals.

Until then, we're trying to raise awareness for the film. Your support is much appreciated!

Actually it looks awful as most low budget movies do.  But hopefully the story will carry it through. No offense Spesh, it's still a major accomplishment on your part.   MAJOR accomplishment.

It's an excellent premise.

Indie films should not be compared to Hollywood studio low budget films.

Either way, if I came across Suicide Theory on Netflix, I'd pass it right up based on how it looks. Low budget.  And the trailer does not look good.

Now of course I'd watch it because I know it's written by Spesh. But if I didn't know him --no way I'd watch it.

That's just me.

But again, I'll say it's an excellent premise. I'd definitely watch the remake starring Guy Pearce.

Edit:  I just went back and watched it again.  Maybe it's that song that's rubbing me wthe wrong way.  I dunno.

It depends on the person.

Like Pia said, big budget films and indie films should never be compared.  And I've seen an abundance of indie films that could put big Hollywood flicks to shame.

"Actually it looks awful as most low budget movies do." -- this is sooo untrue.

And I really like the trailer.

Mike, you already know I'm excited about this, I'm also excited to see how this would be received at festivals.  Congrats again!

It's untrue to YOU.   Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Haha, thanks Silverback, I'll take that as a compliment. Tom Hardy actually read the script back in 2008 (the director of a low budget film called The Inheritance took a liking to it, which had Tom Hardy as a supporting actor). Apparently, he really liked the script but, you know, he became Tom Hardy pretty quickly. Then Toby Kebbell (Clash of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans, Warhorse, Dead Man's Shoes), who worked on a few films w/ our executive producer, wanted to play the lead... but he only had a month window to shoot the film as Wrath of the Titans was coming up, and we couldn't have raised the budget in time. But we have some big sales agents from some awesome movies I really liked interested, which is an achievement itself w/ low budget indie affairs... so we shall see, I'm sure it will be exciting...

I didn't think this looked low budget at all.  It looked very well done (maybe a little too many close-ups, though).  I'd be interested in seeing this.

Congrats.

It wasn't meant as a compliment, Spesh, it was meant as my honest assessment of the trailer. Probably should've just kept my mouth shut and said "congratulations".

Interesting history you provided about the script, though. Good luck with it. Seriously.

Ugh... I should have quoted the part where you said "You'd see it only because you know Spesh wrote it".

That's what I was I was commenting on when I said, I'll take that as a compliment.

Take it easy man, I wasn't getting on you about what you said, I'm cool with it. Anytime you present something in a public forum, you open yourself up to honest criticism, which I fully expected when posting this.

Thanks.

I didn't take it as you weren't getting on me. YOU take it easy man. Have a Bud Light. :)

Honesty and criticism are two different things in my book.  Again, I was just being honest.

Sorry dude, it just seemed like you were a little pissed in the above comment.

A Bud Lite sounds wonderful :) But I'm off the wagon (or is it on the wagon?).

It's "on" the wagon.  Me too.   Only root beer here.

Ah, okay. No wonder I keep having relapses.

Yeah, I've been addicted to root beer lately. Won't go to a movie theater that doesn't have it. I guess that's the next habit to kick.

Congrats Michael.

Always good to hear about the success of others. Well done.

It must be sooooo exciting waiting for it to come out.

Thanks Alex, it is exciting, but it's a long process. They finished shooting in February and have been doing editing, sound mixing, etc since then. I'm not the most patient person in the world, so it can be a bit frustrating, but I've been writing as much as possible to keep my mind off it.

It'll be a lot more exciting once we start hitting the festivals.

Thanks again!

Congratulations, Michael.

I know I haven't gotten a chance to talk to you much about your scripts besides a short or so here and there, but I have checked out some of your features in between my writing times, and I'm definitely a fan.  I know 'Suicide Theory' will only be the first on the list of what's to come.

Can't wait to see it.

Thanks Coop! Yes, Perth! Have a feature in pre over there right now, think they're casting for a trailer/sizzle reel shoot to help raise funding. Never been there myself, but I hear wonderful things! Thanks again for FB like!

I actually think this looks fine, far from the typical stilted indie film look you see - although the music really did ruin the whole thing. Anyway, good job, man! I think you said you'd been writing for 9 years? You really do deserve it. Good luck! :)

Thanks nawazm11! Appreciate it. I kinda like the song (an Arcade Fire cover), but I did like the other song they had in the version they showed me before they released this trailer much better.

Steve (Mouzakis) is an actor to watch out for. He gives a really quirky, odd performance. He's got a big part in that upcoming I, Frankenstein film (January).

Thanks again man, I really do appreciate. I definitely went through a lot through those 9-10 years, lots of disappointment, but the past couple years have been very good to me, so I guess it all pays off. Eventually. I'm sure there's a lot more ahead, you never stop paying your dues.

Congratulations, bro!

I, actually, thought this looked great as well. Lighting was a tad low-key in some of the shots, but it gave it that dark, evil feel which I imagine the director and DoP were going for.

Same! Gotta' love a bit of Arcade Fire.

Thanks Toby_E! I actually think there may have been a problem w/ the link itself... the director told me for some reason that it shows up darker than it does in the film. I dunno, I'm not really hip to all that film stuff... something I'd like to get into at another phase in my life, though.

Yes, Arcade Fire! I actually like the original a lot more than the cover, but the cover captured the moody, somber tone much better.

It could be YouTube's annoying compressing of the video quality which made it darker than it actually is. YouTube did the opposite for one of my shorts before; it made everything feel really bright and washed out, like I was watching the video from Heaven or something, lol.

But congrats once again :)

Keep us updated with any further developments, etc.

Hey that is absolutely awesome! Congratulations Michael. The teaser didn't make even a tiny little bit of sense to me, but the tone totally worked and some of those shots look great. Looks like some of the right people found your script, to me.

Hoping for a trailer that gives a little bit more of a sense of story (and has some dialogue)!

Cool article about the film. They actually focus more on me and the actual script, which feels weird, but it's pretty awesome.

Another cool article/press release about The Suicide Theory. Big shout-outs to director Dru Brown and "Snakes on a Plane" writer John Heffernan for supporting the script and the film!
