Well, well, well...what an interesting little horror flick from the once great master, Francis Ford Coppola, who wrote, directed, and produced this offbeat gothic horror flick.

Most will never have heard of this as it doesn't apear to have ever played theatrically in the US, so that makes sense.  It was filmed in 2011 and because Coppola was trying some crasy kind of experimental editing as reviews came in, the release date was pushed back and the final edited film turned out looking like...well...like nothing anyone involved assumed it would.

It appears this had a $7 Million budget and its look is what sets it apart from most mainstream movies, or even DTV releases.  It is quite beautiful in a very digitized way.  It's look is also how you can relate this back to Coppola - I saw shades of his awesome Dracula production here in numerous colorized and super-imposed shots.  He also seems to enjoy using various camera angles, as well as split screen shots.

It's also quite bizarre and hard to follow, but Coppolla says himself that's both a good thing and that this came to him in a dream.  When it's all said and done, it does feel a little underwhelming...or maybe alot underwhelming, but I guess that's really up to each viewer to decide.

It is nice to see Val Kilmer perform pretty well, but he still has that puffy, odd look he's been sporting for years now.  Bruce Dern plays a kooky role and also performs quite well.  Elle Fanning steals the show in the scenes she's in and Ben Chaplin gives a great Edgar Allen Poe - Don't even ask, you have to watch it to even have a chance of understanding.

Reviews have been scathing for the most part, but there is something here for sure.  It's got a spooky feel and look and just enough going on under teh surface to make me recommend this to those who enjoy giving movies a chance.

I vote for underwhelming, especially for Coppola's stature.

I understand he financed the entire thing himself and am not surprised that studios took a pass on it.
