Went to see Rush today. I didn't watch any trailers, but I was aware that it was about 1970's F1 rivals Lauda and Hunt.

As much as I LOVE cars and racing, I didn't hold out much hope for a sports/true life inspired film . . .

Thankfully, I was wrong, or IMHO anyway.

Found this very entertaining.

Have you seen Senna? That was a fantastic film, even you aren't into F1 or even cars for that matter.

Yes Pia, I have indeed seen Senna, riveting documentary.

If your husband is in to F1, he would really like the book Crashed and Byrned: The Greatest Racing Driver You Never Saw.

It tells the story of Tommy Byrne, an absolute rough around the edges nobody, with a history of petty crime and grand theft auto, who went on to become a race car driver, beating Senna in the Formula progression up to F1.

He's currently a race instructor at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Should be seeing this at the weekend. Despite having very little interest in F1, I thought that Senna was brilliant. That, combined with the glowing reviews for this, have resulted in me highly anticipating Rush.

I'll come back with my thoughts once (and if) I do watch this.

Went to see this today with my husband who's a HUGE F1 fan. I'm not really a car race fan myself, but can't help picking up things here and there because all the males in our family are big car enthusiasts.

Like I said, I'm not a big race fan, but I still thought this film was fantastic. It has everything most of us want in a film. It's loud, exhilarating and a GREAT story! In my opinion, the script was really really great! It was written by 2 time Academy Award winner Peter Morgan. Why do I talk about the script? Because it has conflict!!! Strong conflict in every single scene! God I wish I could write like that! Even if you're not a car nut, it's still a great film to watch. If you are a screenwriter, you NEED to see it...does anyone have the script?  :P

Funnily enough, I didn't really enjoy The Queen that much. The one thing that did stand out though in that film was Peter Morgan's use of symbolism, in particular the scene where the Queen meets the Stag.

Both are hunted prey, both majestic and as suggested, their reign is under threat or about to come to an end.

Later the Queen meets the stag hanging after being shot.

Film looks really engaging, yet to watch it but it hasn't even been released where I live.  Peter Morgan has a lot variety in what he's written so far, and most, if not all his films seem to have him as the sole writer. Very interesting. From the looks of things, this might be winning a few awards next year.

Just got back from seeing this. Thought it was bloody brilliant, despite having no interest whatsoever in F1. Guess that just goes to show how powerful an engaging protagonist can actually be.

I could not agree more. That was something that hit me: how well structured each scene was, in terms of scene goals. This then allowed them to create huge amounts of conflict throughout. Another thing which I thought the script did brilliantly was to create sympathy for Niki Lauda's character who, for the most part, was our antagonist. I can't remember the last time that I was more pumped during a film than when I watched his comeback race! And when Hunt beat up that slimy reporter? A brilliant scene from a brilliant script.
