What do you come up with first?  The title of your script or the plot?

What's your creative process?

I always come up with the title first and I always try to come up with something cool and catchy, something that will stand out.

Script comes first. Sometimes the title doesn't even come at all. I have some ideas that are over a decade old that still don't have a title. Just one of those things.

Very rarely does the title rear its head at the outset. Usually I get the idea, get more than halfway through, more towards the end, and the title will then jump out at me.

It doesn't say boo or anything, but that's how it works for me.

Both and neither!

The title should reflect the story and when the story is being written, the title also has the propensity to change as well.

My last script underwent 8 significant rewrites and four title changes.

The title change reflected the direction of the story, which in turn had changed several times as well during rewrites.

The script I'm on now, has the same title I started with. Once private peeps give me insight and feedback on where I can improve, I'm sure that title will change as well. ;)

For me, it depends. The title of my latest script came to me during the outlining phase. Other times, often with shorts, I start with a rough concept, which then leads the title, which in turn leads to the outline. However, there have been times where I have finished numerous drafts of scripts before a solid title came to me. When this happens, I normally explore and study the titles of similar films, to see if I can identify any common characteristics, as I always find this helps.

But I never force it. For me, titles are one of those things which will come to you when ready :)

I can start from a title, a character, a place or a message I want to share. The story then builds around that.

I don't believe I've ever come up with a title first; regardless of short or feature.

Not to say they're not massively important (I've had hour long discussions over what the title should be), I just don't give weight to them in the beginning,

Sometimes the title can encapsulate everything the story is about... within seconds of thinking of a title the story grows around it. A title is just a word or a sentence... every story starts from one of those.

It's impossible for me to remember if a title has come first or not with my own work, but I'm pretty sure it has.

If I'm searching for ideas throwing up a made up title or two pushes me to consider the story within it. Can be helpful.

Other times it's the last thing I think of. My current movie poet entry was titled right at the end, once the story and theme and revealed themselves.

No right and wrong on this one.

Title always comes first for me.  Then I build my ideas around it.  I never change the title from what it starts out as.  Ever.

It has happened either way for me. BUT I love a simple straight forward title. Love it. Infact, I believe a title can sell a concept. Yep it can.
