Bloody hell. The Bible is shorter than that.
I was a young man when I started reading that and now I fear I shall have to call the old people's home.
Interesting though. Don't really listen to music myself anymore, just sort of experience it when I go to bars. I was always jealous of my friends who really LOVED a particular band as I never found one. I only ever like a couple of songs.

I think we can apply the same logic to film.
I'm of the opinion that the studios have, for the most part, lost touch and are strangling the art of film in much the same way music was strangled.
The internet is doing the same thing for film as it has for music, only far more slowly.

Fantastic. This is exactly my and my company's philosophy on film, and why we want to build a presence on YouTube.
If the idea of someone enjoying a digital copy of your work for free bothers you, try a non-creative industry.

All the great songs have already been written years ago. And pretty much all the great films have already been made.

I was in a band. It was quite a while ago.
The band no longer exists. This is probably best for everyone. |
- Strictly grunge yes? Please tell me you played bass? I can just picture you in some dimly lit, smoky club, circa early 90s, doing your thing without fuss behind the lead singer punctuated by the occasional lumber towards the backing vocal microphone to growl some barely decipherable non sequiter. Do-not-shatter my illusion!
- I read this yesterday, totally agree, very interesting piece. If anything, its heartening to read a positive spin on the current landscape from the artist's perspective.

- Da?n, if I believed this, mate, I'd end it all today, my life that is. Thankfully I don't.

Good for you. I'd like to do something similar with short 10-minute films... although I would prefer to monetise it somehow. Even if it's a cheap yearly subscription with the makers and distributors (the site) of the films making pennies.

I was known to don the tool of ignorance occasionally. I'd like to say it was because I preferred it and the guitarist was amazing. The unfortunate truth is it was because the actual bassist was a pisshead and I was rubbish on guitar. And the guitarist was only mildly better than me. Plus he had an amp.

Add a leather jacket and some knee wobbling and you're there.

Don't forget the can of lager by the monitor for the first few numbers until I forgot about it and knocked it over, as well as all seven people at the bar talking loudly. Happy days. Probably not so happy for them.

Twas good. I met Albini once. I say met, he was at the bar in a club and I said 'hello Steve'. He looked at me, nodded, then went back to his table. Erm, sorry I mentioned it now.

- Nice, this made my day. Illusion intact, thank you.

You're welcome. It was usually around the start of our second number we weren't. Oh well.
