Don't really get Thanks Giving but happy days to all across the pond, and everywhere else actually.

Historically, some members of an English religious sect decided they wanted to practice without influence from others so they moved to Holland, ran across more outside influence, then paid their way to America in an extreme isolationist move - thus they became "the Pilgrims."
Due to some unfortunate events their departure from England, accompanied by an equal number of contract laborers, was delayed, they arrived near Massachusetts in November, couldn't plant anything to eat, and they brought with them some killer flu-like infection that killed them off rather well.
Despite receiving extensive assistance from the local native Americans about half of the Pilgrims and laboreres starved, froze, and illed to death over the winter.
Those that survived hosted a community feast the following fall harvest before putting their food up for winter storage.
The feast was to "give thanks" to God for their good fortune.

Modern observance carries forward that sentiment, to give thanks for what we have, with or without any religious spirit.

I had a great day. 63 degrees and a clear blue sky. Spent some time in the sun in between cooking. I didn't have to do a lot of cooking because we were going to my daughter's place so that was a plus too. No cleaning up!!!!! First time I didn't do the whole Thanksgiving shebang by myself in almost 30 years! I LOVED IT!

Another plus is that these people are VERY health conscious, so we had a very healthy dinner. I really appreciated that because none of us felt that we were going to die after dinner, which is usually the case. I had two plates, but still feel fantastic!

Went home with husband afterwards and watched Airplane. We haven't seen that one in ages. Hilarious!!! So, great day here in Florida. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving as well.  :)

Went out to the casino buffet. I ate so much (two plates plus dessert) that I felt like John Hurt.

Curiously enough, we had enough leftovers in the fridge for maybe two Thanksgivings.

Pretty cold down here, heavy coats.

Ha, that's really funny, Chris.  ;D

I'm kinda glad living in Oz and it being Summer time, we only have to deal with the one big dinner at Christmas.

Just Christmas here too. The only reason I look forward to Thanksgiving is because of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Speaking of which, I have to hit the stores.

When I was a kid I thought it was happy thanks skivvy. So when ever it was mentioned I'd get a mental picture of a lot of people wearing skivvies. Still do even though I know it's not that anymore. So yeah, that's my thanks giving story. Happy Thanks Skivvy, everyone!

Aww, I rather liked 'Henry' on the boards.

And, it appears the artist formerly known as Henry is also now referring to himself in the third person. Mmm, I think a certain person may have imbibed too much thanksgiving cheer. ;D

Just kidding. On the Internet you can be whoever you wanna be.  ;) Love the Raggedy Ann.

I like your instincts.

He might have to change back.

On my way to Dallas Fort Worth, we witnessed an incredibly horrific train wreck where a pick up truck trying to cross the tracks was slammed into at 60 miles an hour by a locomotive.

It took 600 yards for the train to stop. Once we got it to my sisters house I began googling the accident and a couple of hours later, I found out that the sole person in the truck actually survived and was carrying 10 hunting dogs that also survived -1.

I do tend to thank God for all the wonderful things in my life, but as I passed by that train and thought to myself there was no way anybody could have survived, I realize that true Thanksgiving is the belief that what we have in this life that we are thankful for is fleeting and can be taken from you in a moments notice. Isnt that really part of the true meaning of Thanksgiving?

Have a wonderful weekend of thanks my friends.
