I never heard of Ana Lily Amirpour before I saw this film, but A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night won me over enough to watch any future films she does. I recommend this, not only because it's good, it's a solid attempt to infuse a Spaghetti Western into modern cinema. In that sense, there's many influences the film pulls from - some way more obvious than others - but I feel its inspiration digs deeper in time without losing complete sight of the story.

Even with several standout moments, this film only shows a surface view of what motivates the characters. But even then, every actor gives a great performance behind even greater camera work. You'll react to their situations, and Amirpour will let you draw your own conclusions. It's clever, stylish, and offers a lot of trust between a filmmaker's debut feature and its audience.
