Hey all
     I suspect with quite a few people from the UK on here that they will recognize this movie.  I thought I was taping AT world's end, not just The World's end.  

Anyways, so, I watch this movie, and I was THIS close to giving up b/c it's really boring, dumb, stupid and sad.  Not good qualities for a comedy.

If you don't know the story:  I won't spill it all, but, a guy who has never grown up is in counseling.  He's telling them about this amazing night where he and his high school buds went on this drinking bender called the golden mile, where 12 different pubs were.  They all got so drunk that none of them finished the contest.

Now, some 20 years later, he decides to get the "band" back together, and complete the task.  So, he shows up for the first time in 20 years and gets them all to join him in his mission.

It isn't funny, at all.  Like I said, it's sad.  Pathetic sad.  His buddies grew up, but, he didn't.  

And things look re ally bad until he ends up getting into a fight in the bathroom of one of the pubs.

And someone dies, kinda, really, kinda.

Then, it does a 180.  And I mean a 180 that I never saw coming, and if you didn't see it or read anything about it, you won't either.  Then it becomes good, really good.

I actually have to give it a B+.  For Imagination.  It was really inventive.  And if you are old like me, a killer soundtrack.  

I think it's a must see.  It's on HBO in the states this month, so, if you get a shot to see it, take it.

I hope you know this is part of the Cornetto trilogy and have watched the far superior first two, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

This wasn't great at all, and I'm a huge fan of Pegg, Frost and Wright. I found it very boring and actually fell asleep watching it, which isn't like me at all. I watched the end at a later date and, yeah, was disappointed big tiime. I didn't care for any of the characters and the jokes fell flat more times than they stuck. It was pretty repetitive and felt stale.

As I said, watch the other two. Far better.

     I did see Shaun of the Dead, it was pretty good.  I had a good time with them making fun.  I did NOT expect that gore shot in the bar, I was eating at the time and lets say, that didn't work well.

I did know about the trilogy after I read about it on wikapedia.  I didn't know before hand.

Like I said, I saw Shaun, but, I didn't see Hot Fuss.  What is that about?  I know it made the most cash of all 3.

I think I liked this b/c it was such an oddball twist on life and how people change.  

You are right about many of the jokes, they are lame.

Hot Fuzz was alright, not as good as Shaun of the Dead though.  It's a cop buddy movie, Dan, btw.

Na Shun of the Dead was definitely best. But Hot Fuzz is a great deal better than The World's End.

Yeah a buddy cop movie with, again, a weird twist. I enjoyed it.

I loved Shaun Of The Dead,  especially the inspired opening when Pegg's character goes to the local shops hung over, completely oblivious to the zombies around him. Classic funny stuff.

The other movies not so much.

For me, Shaun of the Dead is a classic. One of my all time faves. Maybe I was biased when Hot Fuzz came out, but I really enjoyed it. Been a while since I've watched it though. I do think it is a good bit better than The World's End though. It was a major let down. But again, maybe it was because I was dying for it to come out for so long, it just never met my high expectations.

On a side note, Libby, I remember you were eagerly anticipating the release of It Follows like myself. What you think of that?

Shaun of the Dead was a good one. Seen a bit of Hot Fuzz but couldn't finish it, didn't even bother to try and watch The World's End.

I loved it! It wasn't perfect, but overall I really enjoyed it - by 'enjoy' I mean it scared the crap out of me a few times so it's well worth the ticket price if it does that. I won't clutter up this particular thread with all that I liked - think there's a thread for it somewhere...Been a couple of good 'horrors' this year so far.

Sadly, didn't live up to my expectation. Maybe because, again, they were too high. I didn't hate it but felt it was a tad boring. And got a little ridiculous near the end. Still prefer The Babadook.

Oh, and I believe Max was quoting a line from Shaun of the Dead. Where Pegg is manager for the day and tries to give a motivational speech. Very funny ;)

Yeah, that's the thing about hyping a film up too much - you expect something amazing. You know what, it's a bit crummy - how's that? Now you'll really enjoy it!  ;D

Babadook is a good story. I had those gals checking out one of my scripts but it didn't go ahead in the end. Shame, they could really have done my script justice.

The World's End - Pure garbage.

I tried so hard to stay with this over 3 nights, and finally said, "Fuck it".

Not funny, not fun, plain old stupid.  The "twist" was awful and the movie actually went downhill from then on, if that's possible.
