QUESTION : I have an idea for this , it would be a dark version mystery with Nancy Drew . Is that against the rules for this contest ?

If it fits the parameters i.e., female lead, thriller/horror/action/MacGuffin etc. I'd say, why not. It's a creation of your own isn't it - I mean the character won't be called Nancy Drew?

Why would it be against the rules?

Because the character Nancy Drew is not my creation , but the story is . Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to get disqualified for using a copyrighted character .

Why not just use the story that you have in mind, but tell it with a character that you create?

Great to hear! Fan scripts can be a good learning exercise for new writers, but I have always been of the school of thought that time and effort can still be better spent working on a wholly original idea. Besides, once you finish an original script, you have something that is totally yours to do with as you please, which includes trying to get it produced, something that you cannot do with fan fiction (given the copyright pitfalls).

Good luck with your entry.

And welcome to the site! :)

Bumping this question to ask from the previous thread...

what's the rules on dual protags for this OWC?

I don't think it was answered, but feel free to point me to the direction. Would a 50/50 split between a male/female protag not be in the spirit of the challenge?

Female lead. The split, imo, is not within the spirt of the challenge.

That's me out unfortunately, the challenge has thrown up a great idea (imho), but the story has decided it doesn't want to fit within any of the criteria, except the McGuffin!

Don, can you make the next 7WC a romantic period drama please ;-)

I didn't find out about this challenge until Tuesday or Wednesday, so I'm a little late to the party.

And not realizing this was a seven (not one) week challenge, and a feature(?), I came up with a pretty cool concept. Thinking it was gonna be another quick short, I cut to the chase pretty early on. Now I've got some (more) kinks to work out.

I might've bitten off more than I can chew, but hell, I'll see where it goes. I love the challenge of coming up with something from scratch by a set deadline. :D

Good luck to everybody! :)
