Having vivid dreams that would make good clips. Also love to put myself in rolls and come up with lines.  Want to put some of them out to see how I measure up and to see what people think.  People always say that my recollection of dreams I’ve had would make a good movie, and I now want to put pen to paper.  Please let me know where I should post or what I should do to get better. Basically just want to say Hi and let people know where I am coming from so they won’t think I’m crazy as I present my ideas.

Thanks for reading

Welcome James. You're in the right place. Read a few scripts here and there, get to know what the screenwriting format looks like. Comment too. Your thoughts and comments are what we want, and eventually you will get them on your own work as well. Look for the regulars here. They're the ones who are most likely to respond to your work. It's a great journey you're beginning, James. You've chosen a great starting point.

Also, there is a One Week Challenge coming up too. Very soon. You'll be seeing posts about it pretty soon, I suspect. Give it a go. No better way to get in the mix with a little baptism by fire!

Welcome James, in addition to what Steven said... have a look at some dedicated screenwriting software if you don't already have it, it will help with formatting, CeltX and Writer Duet have free versions.

Welcome James. A lot of great people on here that'll help you out a lot. As said already, read a lot. You'll learn from it, and then put what you've learned into your work. I'll be sure to look out for your stuff and give any input I can.

Best of luck.

Glenn.

hi James

the best rules around here are;

1] use the portal button - shows an overview wolf what is active

2] read and review scripts

then...

3] write and submit

you can of course share ideas, rather than finished work, so that may help.

all the best

Read a ton, get a basic idea of how to write, get a decent screenwriting program, and get your stuff out for us to read...and one of the most important things of all is to accept people's comments. We are here to help, we may come off as assholes but it's only to make you better.

Someone else can confirm this but I do believe Trelby (free download) runs independently i.e., you don't have to be online to use it - I think with Celtx you do - didn't used to...? I think Writer Duet works offline as well.

My advice is don't use a 'Word' add on - the formatting is never bang on and why would you when something like Trebly will do the trick for you, and make your job a lot easier with all of its formatting functions inbuilt.

Yep, Writer Duet has a free version: https://writerduet.com/

and here's the linke to Trelby:

Trelby does run independent of the internet, yes, and works great as long as you are not trying to use some special format, such as one for a multi-camera sitcom. As long as you want to use just a regular format, Trelby is a good free program.
