Think of mockumentaries like What We Do in The Shadows or Spinal Tap...how would one write a character to speak directly into the camera (not found footage, the camera man is NOT a character in the movie).

I keep hearing of phantom POV's but I wasn't sure if that was correct.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a good example of speaking to the camera every once and a while, but I didn't feel like reading that whole script to find the little action line pertaining to the POV.

I've done this before. What I did was indicate directly in the action line preceding the dialogue that the character is breaking the fourth wall, just so there was no confusion as to what was happening. For a mockumentary, I'd establish this once in the action at the first instance where it occurs then format the dialogue according to Pia's (Angry Bear's) example above.

I don't know if there's a standard/"official" rule for this, though; I just did what seemed the most pragmatic.
