Question.

In times like this where script submissions are closed for a period of time, and not much reading and reviewing of shorts seems to happen. Are people generally opposed to reading old shorts and commenting on them as they shoot back to the top of the thread?

I know there are a lot of features I could read but I just finished a big read and review of an entire feature and really just want to spend more time on shorts.

I don't want to start filling up the top of threads with old material if that's not okay.

I have a few pair and really like them but sometimes you have to bite the bullet and throw them out. Comments..really depends on who's wearing them ;-)

I'd think reading and commenting is always welcome regardless of how old some are. I'd just make sure that they're written by active members. Who doesn't want a bump?

To this, I would add one tip.

Look through the thread in question -- perhaps years old -- and see if the author has ever responded to any of the comments.  Even with a polite "thanks," or whatever.

If the author is totally MIA, you might elect to spend your time commenting on a different thread.  Not that you cannot comment there.  You certainly may.  Just saying.

It's best to make sure the author is active.

Other wise you'll get just as much enjoyment from talking to a tomato.  
Unless you're a sitophiliac.  Then by all means...talk away.

I'll echo what others have said about active members. There are several folks who posts scripts who actually have no interest in your comments. They are just posting here for visibility.

The only caveat I would add is that always read something where you think it might be instructive to you. I'll read genre's that interest me regardless of whether or not the authors around because I might be trying to learn something - just won't go thru the bother of posting.

I think the real question, is 'is it ok to comment on your own old scripts?' Maybe that's just me?

I have a few shorts that will be going into production soon. I have no real reason to comment on the threads related to those shorts anymore unless someone else does and I write a reply.

You often see old threads shot back to the top, when they are produced/filmed/short available for viewing. Are people generally happy with that? Because at the end of the day that’s what it's about, isn’t it?

I know that I’ll be getting on set photos and potentially banners and teaser trailers. Are these good enough reasons to bump a thread?

I appreciate when someone posts a status on their script (e.g., optioned, in production, did well in contest, etc.) especially if it is one that I read. It is always great to see one of the SSers acheiving something

I'll bump my own threads no matter what anyone else thinks... so long as there is a valid reason, I'm on it.

I'll also bump an old thread if a script falls out of option.

I suppose that's one of the benefits of being a regular member.

There is actually a good reason to do so, in general.

There are many good scripts in here that get forgotten. Bumping old threads, of good scripts, is no bad thing.
