Oh boy...call me a sucker, call me a fool...I expected so much more here and actually had somewhat high hopes, even though reviews were far from glowing.

What we have here is basically shit...the stanky kind of shit.  The kind that you smell before you see it.  The kind that lingers in your nostrils long after you've fled the vicinity.

Terrible premise, first of all.  It just makes no sense whatsoever.

No story or plot, really, and once the group gets in the woods, no sense at all of what was going on or why.

Shot in the now classic faux FF format, it's really hard to make out what's going on.  Most of this takes place at night, in very dark areas, it just doesn't work at all.  It's more irritating than anything else.

Characters are about as paper thin as they come, and there's just no way you can care about any of them.

Once we make it to "the house", which happens with about 20 or so minutes to go, things do pick up in intensity, but what's going on, is a complete mystery, again, because of how it's filmed.

We get what I imagine are a few brief shots of the witch herself, a bunch of screaming, running, pulling oneself through tight underground tunnels, and then more screaming, crying, and banal dialogue.

The ending is what really killed this for me, as it ends so quickly, and with such a whimper, that I sat in my seat, staring at the credits, which instantly follow, thinking, WTF?  Really?

No reason I can come up with to sit through this 1 time, and replay value is literally a ZERO.

I was going to see Hell or High Water, but it started an hour earlier, and as I was about to leave, my phone rang - business - and I ran out of time.  I should have waited for the next showing, as this was a waste.

I've always had a soft spot for the original as I saw it when it came out and I was 10 or 11. I remember watching it at about 2 AM in my bed on a Dutch TV station. The ending scared the shit out of me.

Probably if I saw it later on in life, the magic would have not been there.

The second one, straight up sucked.

I had no interest in seeing this until I saw who directed it. then I was a bit intrigued. Then I saw the trailer, it looked like shit and I lost all interest again.

Since the original was filmed, have they discovered image stabilization? How about a gimbal? I still have a headache from the first.

I've always had a fascination with the original Blair Witch Project, it's a headache to some, but I still find it wildly creepy. However, I kept expectations super low for this remake masked as a sequel, even though having Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett at helm piqued my interest. (After seeing Creep, I think Mark Duplass would have been a much more interesting filmmaker to take this on.)

I didn't hate this reboot, but there were certainly a lot of missed opportunities. The new technology was introduced but never used inventingly enough to warrant another camping trip in Burkittsville. The last 20 minutes was impressive, but the lead up to it all definitely was not.

There were things I did like, I think they expanded on the original mythology in some fun ways even if they didn't execute them as successfully as they could have. However, my biggest problem was the ridiculous amount of jump scares that were incredibly unnecessary and felt almost offensive to what made the original Blair Witch so terrifying.

On that note, showing the witch was very underwhelming. This franchise is better left keeping the scares off screen and not having the witch turn into some all-powerful tent hurling monster. However, I did read something from Simon Barrett saying that it wasn't the witch we see in the movie, but could be one of her victims? I forget where I read it, but I like the idea, it just never came off that way in the film.

The jarringly loud sounds were super annoying even before the group heads into the woods, I'm not sure if it was just my theater or not. If the original didn't exist, this might have been a much scarier film, but it doesn't offer anything new this time around. However, I did notice that younger audience members who seemed unfamiliar with the original were horrified by this movie, so if it works for a new generation, I guess that's the point, right?

I thought the original was appalling. It had zero scares, zero atmosphere and terrible acting.

The sequel was amongst the worst films I've seen. The premise was fine, but the execution was as bad as it gets.

But I'm a huge fan of found footage horror. The immediacy it brings just really works for me.

The reviews of this were poor, I hated the first two so I didn't have high hopes...but I was surprised. It was a really good effort. By far the best in the series by a LONG way. Just an entirely better class of director.

It committed just one faux pas...which was the terribly underwhelming ending which undid a lot of the work done in building the suspense.

yeah i could tell from the latest previews that this one was a skip-it. glad i wasn't wrong.

i loved the original. i was late to the party on it but i still found it quite clever for what it was. it's weird as prone as i am to motion sickness and wooziness - the camera work on that film - even on the big screen didn't bother me a bit.

i tend to think most of the original blair witch hate comes from those who were tricked by it.

The original is one of my top five favorite movies of all time. Still gives me the creeps to this day. I had high hopes for this sequel and it more or less delivered. It was never going to be as good or as groundbreaking as the original film, but it delivered what it promised. Leaps and bounds better than BW2: Book Of Shadows (which I still manage to enjoy BTW). Really the only thing that bothered me was the whole "the witch can't hurt you if you don't look at her" thing. Where the hell did that come from? In the original it is stated that Rustin Parr would bring the children down to his basement two at a time and make one face into a corner while he murdered the other. But there was never any mention of the witch being unable to attack her victims if they didn't look at her. To be fair, I've only watched the new film once. Maybe I missed something and it will be more clear after multiple viewings. Still a solid horror film.

As someone who just went to the cinema to watch a film with no idea that people had believed it was real,  all I saw was a badly acted,  poorly scripted bore fest where people walked around a woods doing nothing. The snot scene was laugh out loud funny as well... Never good for a horror film.

I did see a theory recently that the original film was actually just a documentary showing how the two guys killed the girl which explains the ridiculous character reactions.  That idea makes it slightly more palatable,  though the sequels negate that interpretation.  

As a supernatural horror it is one of the worst found footage films I've seen.  One of those films that you can't understand how anyone can rate it.
