I went to ESPN to see the playoff schedule, and saw a story "Diary of the 27 Yankees". I'm not a Yankees fan, but no time is not worth procrastinating over, so I clicked.

What blew me a away was the writing style, and that's why I am posting. I went on to read several articles by the sports writer, Ford Frick.

Crisp, clear...and very visual. The images pop. And the dialog is outstanding.

Ernest Hemingway worked as a newspaper writer out of high school. That's no doubt where he picked up his distinct style. After reading Frick's work, I suspect this was just the style that had developed in the news business and had been in play for many years.

And unlike Hemingway, the humor in Frick's voice leaps off the page.

Anyway, nothing to do with screenwriting, but thought maybe someone might be interested.
