Possibly a cinematic first?

A prequel that's considerably better than the original.

Of course, that's made easier when the original was pretty crap,  but still a good effort.

This is pretty good. Nothing new but well produced. If you enjoy these kind of films you'll enjoy it, if you don't you won't.
It loses itself near the end, but it's good enough. A poor man's conjuring franchise.
