A friend sent me a draft for the adapted screenplay the Mazerunner. Based on internet research, this appears to be an early draft that sticks close to the book. The final draft made some changes, though it still seems to stick fairly close to the book(I have not read the book).

For a short time, if anyone PMs me, and I recognize them from the board, I will share the draft for educational purposes.

We always talk about pro scripts and "rules". I think this script is written the way a spec script should be written(it's not quite a spec, but it's written in that style). It might be useful to writers to highlight the writing where "rules" were broken, and then ask yourself why the rule was broken.

It's also an interesting script for anyone interested in adaptations, which is why I wanted the script in the first place.

Nope. If you PM me I will send the script. If you know the "rules", highlight where he breaks them. And see if you understand why it's written the way it is.

It's about making the read smooth and clear.

It's about using the writing to create some of the tension and emphasis points that we would experience in the film.

I'm not suggesting it's the greatest script ever. It just happens to be one I read this week, and it demomstrates these things well.

It's not about copying a style either. Many of the techniques he uses I already use. Because it makes the read more effective.

Which is really the only rule.

That said, it's a revision draft since there are lots of asterisks and it's stated it's a blue draft.

Doesn't matter, some stotytelling-parts are really interesting in case of witing.
