When I wrote my series of articles - https://anthonycawood.wordpress.com/category/articles/ on getting your scripts produced, the very first article focused on the importance of marketing yourself.

This was demonstrated most dramatically last week when a Producer contacted me about a couple of my feature scripts (Graft and Visiting Day).

His initial contact came from my website, using the Contact form, so I knew he'd found the site and had read the loglines for the scripts there.

He read both scripts and took a particular liking to Graft, and Optioned it a few days later.

I asked him how he'd found me... his answer wasn't really what I expected... he'd used Google and apparently my site had come up!

So, I said it before, and I'll say it again... an active web presence and preferably your own site, can definitely pay dividends!

How much does it cost to maintain your own site? If you don't mind me asking.

I use Moonfruit which is a websitebuilder/host... thinks it's about £50 per year, but there's tons of options these days and some will be cheaper/free.

Zack - I use WIX and it's free. You can hit the link below if you want to see what it looks like. It is pretty easy to use

While this is up...

If you are a member of the discussion board and you have a website that has a screenwriting component, you are entitled to have your link listed on the blog home page:

http://www.simplyscripts.com/#writers

Shoot me an email or pm. Visit me in m dreams.  Telepathy works, too.  Let me know our site. It gives you a tiny Google boost being linked to from another site relevant to yours.

You do not have to link back.

Anthony and others.  Do you think it's worth it to do a yourname.com with yearly fees or is one of the free services and hosts just as good?

Hey Cooper

Personal opinion only, but I think your own domain looks like you take the writing more seriously, and you get you own domain emails too, which again I believe make you appear more professional.

But, even a free service/host gives you a presence and many you can upgrade at a later date too.

I was on Ipage but then their fees went through the roof after the first year. I've switched to Godaddy.

Congratulations Anthony, all your hard work is paying off.

So far I've not had a single person contact me via my website, I just get a lot of spam but I'm not really putting myself out there enough like you do. I'm more focused on producing my own material at the moment.  But at least the website is there, just in case!

And you'll be able to use the website to promote your material too, trailers, teaser reels etc...

Good luck with everything you got going, Anthony! If you ever need a read...  :)

I used to have a website. Had all my scripts there. Close to a hundred, I think. Over the years though, I became a better writer and those older scripts no longer represented my style or "skills". I was horrified when I would hear from producers saying that they've read all the scripts on my website! So, I eventually killed the website. So, keep that in mind if you have a site for years, to occasionally look over your scripts and make sure you really do want the whole world to see your scripts posted.   :o :B
