Critically and financially a big success, but is it something that you should see?

Hell Yes!  Definitely not for everyone, and maybe even not for most, as it's slow, depressing, and violent.  It just works, though.  The very strong performances by everyone is what really hits home.

Plot-wise or story-wise, there's really very little here.  An interesting decision was made on how to "show" this, and for me, it worked very well, wherein Tarantino made a similar choice with Hateful 8 that didn't work at all.

When violence hits, it hits hard and real, and here we have some of the better high powered rifle kills I've ever seen.

In the end, I think I wanted a little more, but I'm very pleased I saw this in the theater, where a movie set in WY (but actually filmed in Park City, UT) needs to be seen.

Yeah, I enjoyed it. Knew nothing about it going in. Had a couple hours to kill waiting for repairs so I went with whatever had a good RT score.

Wish I'd read up a bit cuz the opening threw me. Thought I was watching some serial killer mystery/thriller at first. It's not that at all, luckily.

Really about this bleak environment, the toll it takes, and what it brings out in people.

Only minor gripe I had was I wanted more out of Elizabeth Olsen's character. She was great in the role (loved her in that Martha movie too). But I wish they'd spent a little time on her past, or aspirations, or some deeper reason for her sticking with the investigation when she could've bailed early.

That ending was phenomenal though. So intense.

This was a good movie. It wasn't anything great, but it was solid all around. It just felt a bit too familiar and simple story-wise.

I've been trying to find a decent pirate version of this. I'll have to wait till it hits Netflix.

Sheridan didn't have the directing chops to put this on the level of Sicario or Hell or High Water, but I think it's the best of the three scripts. A very solid thriller, and definitely hard-hitting. Criminal under-use of Graham Greene, but that's often the case. It's a very simple plot, but not in a way that hurts it -- a stronger director, I think, would have been able to give us a much better sense of place and community to drive home some of the ideas that come together in the climax, and the simplicity of the plot wouldn't even have been noticeable. But this is one of the best snowy thrillers to come out of the States in a while.

i just watched this. very good film! Hardly a surprise as Hell or High Water and Sicario are among two of the best films of the last few years. Sheridan has proved to be someone whose films are auto-watch material.

And I agree with MarkItZero -  Olsen is fantastic in this.

About five minutes into Wind River I was thinking Sheridan was about to butcher his great script but as the movie progressed I lost those feelings. Especially when the shi* really hit the fan. He's a great writer. There is absolutely no denying that. Hollywood also needs some more great Directors. So I am definitely pulling for him.
