SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /   General Chat  /  Shia LaBoeuf makes PAGE Quarterfinals...

The contest says that all scripts are judged anonymously, and I know that's true.

Now I'm no conspiracy theorist....

But I did some checking - Page early-bird entries were due January 15, and last call final entries were due May 15...

The earliest article I can find announcing a cast attachment to a script called HONEY BOY by Shia LaBeouf is March 16...

Hmmm...

;D

It says in the rules when you enter that if your script has been optioned/purchased/in production, it's not eligible to compete. Interesting to see how that will play out.

I have not yet told them about The Hit because we still haven't signed any legal papers, but the director is working on the project. It still possible however that nothing comes of it, so I let it wait to the next round. I doubt that it will advance, but if somehow it does, I will have to look at the situation at that time. I hope it will be in production at that time since I'd rather have a produced film than a semi finalist credit. I wonder how many scripts become ineligible during the comp?

Here are some other notable quarter finalists: http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1531958021/

Being in production aside, I was smiling about the anonymous aspect...

So there's a really good chance that by the time he submitted it, Hollywood knew there was a script called HONEY BOY by Shia LaBeouf, and he may not have signed with Automatik at that point... BUT then a script called HONEY BOY by anonymous pops up in a judge's queue... and then it makes the quarterfinals.

Who woulda thunk?

Pia, if memory serves on the Page rules... I believe the rule is that the script cannot be optioned/sold when you submit it... doesn't matter what happens after that point.

And congrats!

According to the email I received from them, they do end up disqualifying some in the semi-final stages when they do more in-depth probing. The main cause is the 50k lifetime earnings from writing rule, which people seem to conveniently forget, but I imagine scripts that have already been optioned would also get cut.

This is the info gathered from others, so, a disclaimer here - the same Shia LaBoef did write Honey Boy which is now in production. So, it must be the same Shia.

Btw, I'm not in any way saying that the script didn't make it on its merits. Unless it's a total vanity project, I'm sure the script is great. I was laughing at the comments made the by the contest organizers about all work being anonymous. There's no way the judges didn't know Shia wrote that script.
