SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board  /  Writing Opportunities and Call for Scripts  /  Imagine Impact - Grazer & Howard
Posted by: LC, July 18th, 2018, 9:48pm
Just spotted this:

https://www.imagine-impact.com

Now, this one appears to be Brian Grazer and Ron Howard.

And they're giving out the money to successful candidates:

Top candidates will be invited to interview with our team, after which our class of Creators will be selected.

Because we understand the financial stress that sometimes comes with following your dreams, Imagine Impact will provide $40,000 to the selected Creators to cover living expenses in Los Angeles for the two months of their program.

Applications for Impact 1 close in a few days on 22 July.

I dunno, I'm a terrible cynic...

The Application form has some interesting questions, and a very long and involved looking Submission Release Agreement which is probably standard, and a thirty second video is also required - 30 seconds?! You'd need to be creative there.

Gavin Grazer and Jana Grazer yesterday, and now Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, the latter being two Hollywood bigwigs.

Haven't seen anything like this since Project Greenlight.

* Bit like a bootcamp apparently. Various articles abound. Here's an example:

Interesting article.

Would like to see them run a script contest with the winners being selected to join the camp.

Yes! Could be Feature-length, Pilot, Mini Series. That'd be good.

I suppose this boot-camp way of developing projects is a different way of achieving the same result for getting a star vehicle happening with them having first option.

I don't envy them trawling through the multitude of entries.

That's a fantastic opportunity, all the US based SSers should get all over this asap!!!

As the old saying goes, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
Submitted.
Wish me luck...I'll need it!

I just heard from Ron Howard and there were 4,000+ applicants for the Imagine Impact workshop. They had to push the start date back another week to Sept. 17th.

I'll need more than luck, I think.

I was too late with my script but they just sent me a questionnaire (rather long) on what I would be looking for in a site to aid writers. Seems like they want to give back. (Of course there were some questions about cost. Always about the Benjamin’s )

I received a mass rejection video from Brian Grazer last weekend. Absolutely no hard feelings as I believe they were way overwhelmed with the response. I'm sure they didn't expect 4,000+ applicants.

I'll be submitting again for round two (Spring 2019?), for sure. I'm also curious to see if this turns out to be a reality show as it has all the ingredients: Eight weeks; $40k to participate; personal show-runners to assist the writers develop their creations; weekly informal dinners to review progress; and a grand finale 'pitch-fest'.

There's a lot of talent here on Simply Scripts and I think it would be worthwhile for writers to apply for the next round. I'd be damn sure to give the site a shout out if I was ever selected.

Next round of applications is coming fast.

I was curious if anyone could share what I need to be prepared for with the application. I see I'll need a 30 sec video. (What are they asking to be covered in the video?)

What type of questions are they asking on the application?
You don't submit a script, right? Just an idea? Do you submit a treatment?

Any help would be greatly appreciated - as I'm working up an idea for the fellowship.

Bump to see if anyone is able to share what the submission process looks like.

I didn't end up entering but I think I remember some of the application questions. It was stuff like...

What is your main character's goal?

What obstacles are stopping him from achieving his goal?

How does he change over the course of the story?

Why are you uniquely qualified to tell this story?

Tell us one recent film/screenwriting article/news that interested you and why?

Overall, it was basically testing how passionate you are about it and whether you have an actual story planned out as opposed to just a cool idea.

I don't think it asked to submit a full treatment. Not sure about the requirements of the video.

I'll have to go back through my files and find what I drafted for the application. I'll send you a pm later today.

Thanks to both of you!

So, story questions. Excellent. I'm prepared for that.

I had a super-strong idea that I was going to pitch... but, when I sat down to get serious about it, a quick "first step" Google search brought up a movie currently in production with the exact same idea. Bummed me out, but, at least I was able to recognize a sellable story when I saw it. (And, I had only put brainstorming work into it, so not much time lost.)

My current idea isn't quite as strong, but I like it. Hopefully they will, too.

Thanks for the info!

Hey all - I received this from Imagine Impact a couple weeks ago and thought you might be interested in the results of the first II session. The next session is open for applications January 7 and closes January 20, 2019. This is what they sent:

We can't believe it's already been three months since our Impact 1 class' first day in Los Angeles! We're so proud of all the hard work our Creators put into their projects and pitches, and we're endlessly thankful to the Shapers and Speakers who helped guide their projects along the way.

Below is an update on everything our crew has been up to post-Pitch Day, and further down you'll find info on the launch of Impact 2!

Thank you all for your continuing to support Impact, and we hope to see you apply to join us in LA this spring.

Happy Holidays!

-The Impact Team

-On Pitch Day, we hosted almost 250 individuals from every major studio, network, and production company in Hollywood at Pitch Day where they heard our Creators showcase their projects

-Within 48 hours of Pitch Day, over 600 scripts were requested and distributed to executives via our Impact mobile app -  the first app of its kind in the industry

-Almost half of our Impact writers came into the program without representation, and 7 of them have already been signed by top agencies and/or management companies

-In the weeks after Pitch Day, 3 of our television projects have attached showrunners to produce them, including two Shapers who were thrilled to have the chance to stay onboard the projects they shaped

-Though details are still under wraps, we're excited to say that there are 5 Impact projects with offers in and active buyer negotiations...

-But more than anything, we're proud of having launched our inaugural class of Creators into the world. We can't wait to watch them close deals on projects, staff in writers rooms, and excel in their careers!

I'm applying. If I don't get accepted, I'll start writing my script idea and see if I can't get it done in the 8 weeks that Imagine-Impact runs.

Would be cool if someone from around here got in. Even better if 2 got in! Hell, let's make this place a training ground for the fellowship!

I'm heading down to London next week for a program similar to this called Talent Campus.

Not exactly LA but easier to get to!

Tonight is the close for applications. Anyone throwing their name in the hat? I've been a slacker but might try to get it done this evening.

Didn't make the cut.

The good news is: I can get started on the project I pitched.

And, I've already got the idea I'll pitch for the next Impact round. Guess I'll get started writing up the application!

That's weird. They said all interview requests have gone out, and everyone else got an email with a link to a Ron Howard video. I got the video link.

But, they clearly said they're done. Maybe you should follow up with them? They have an active Twitter account if nothing else.

They got back to me - apparantly my email bounced for some reason. Very Nice people, but no I did not make it either

I know, right? Nicest rejection ever.

FYI - Imagine Impact 3 is accepting applications through June 28th. Maybe someone will crack the code on crafting their self-narrative and getting selected this round.

Even with the grant, I can't afford to give up my job and go live in LA for 8 weeks, although I'd love such an opportunity. Best of luck to anyone who applies, this sounds amazing.
