Nothing wrong with the theme. It's real and happens all the time in all societies. However, because it's such a horrible subject, no one wants to see it. It's best hinted at. I've written plenty of scripts about the subject myself because it's something I feel strongly about. Just know that your script will probably not get picked up with that theme, unless it's just soo amazingly written and handled that directors/producers just have to have it.

Another thing to keep in mind is whether any sane parent would let their kid play the scene.

This is a subject matter I've used more than any other, but as Pia said, I always only hint at it.

I even wrote a dark comedy about the subject that people responded very well to.

I've had 2 scripts produced which deal with different levels of child abuse.

So I don't think it's an issue, but no one really wants it to be in you face,  at least I don't think so.

But to be clear I should rewrite and hint at it?

Since you are young and new at screenwriting, my suggestion is to avoid heavy subjects like this. Way too easy to go wrong with it, if you know what I mean.
