I got this email and a few other friends as well. Some say they found you at SS and others say Script Revolution. Not saying they are bad people or anything, just wanted writers to be aware since it seems a bit misleading with the praise. I know for a fact they did not download anything of mine from SR.

"Hello Pia!

My name is Andrea Minana, from Barcelona. I’m starting a Creative Agency hand in hand with the production company Intricate Productions and we are looking for a writer!

We are now talking with a client to create their marketing campaign and we need someone with a lot of skills to pull off a great concept and write three spots that share the same concept but can also stand on their own… That’s why we are reaching out to you because we are big fans of your scripts in Script Revolution.

If you are interested, here’s a little bit more of info: The spots would have to be 1:30 minutes long each and we would need a statement explaining the idea and the concept behind them. The deadline would be December 1st, as we will need time to prepare the treatment and pitch.

The thing is, as this is not a closed deal we would only pay if the client ends up accepting the concept, however we offer to pay more than what would be the normal rate. Let us know if it would be of your interest.

Thank you so much for your time and we hope to hear from you soon!

Best regards,

Andrea Minana

Yep. They're phishing.

Said they found me on revolution although I'm not to find there for a year or more.

I think they got my contact from here. Even misspelled my name. Be careful imo

Yeah. I got it. Not sure what to make of this one. Looks like they want a bunch of writers to write their spots, then choose the best one and after that... Hope you get paid!

Yeah I got it as well. I enquired further. I think it's legit, but only one will get chosen and there is potentially a lot of competition.

Think I might have a crack.

No-one ever tries to scam my scripts, it's not fair!

I'm feeling unloved as well.  :-/ :D

This kind of tournament-style procurement is generally frowned upon because it causes a lot of uncompensated duplicate effort. But when some graphic designer knows that he or she is one of hundreds submitting logos, at least there are realistic expectations.

This letter makes it sound like they reached out to an individual writer, which is unethical in my book.

That said... I didn't get the letter from the porn star, and now I didn't get the letter from the labor thieves. Apparently, I'm not even worthy of scamming  :'(

I got it with the Script Revolution reference, I chuckled and then reported it as phishing.

Haven't received - thanks for the tip

Yeah, I received this one, as well. Scam or not, I struggle enough to write my own stuff without writing something for somebody else...

I'm interested to know what people think the scam might actually be. I see the worst case scenario being not getting paid for the work, which, in reality, isn’t that much. Conceiving the idea will be the hardest part. It’s 500 words of concept and 3 x 3 page scripts.

I'm not sure I think it's a scam. I just found it disingenuous to say that they are big fans of my scripts when I know for a fact that they have not read anything of mine.

IMO, it just screams of "Let's get as many gullible writers as possible to send us ideas and then we just pick the best one".

I totally agree and think this is the case. I'm happy to play along though.

It may not be a scam as such, but this company is going to get a LOT of ideas for free, without having to hire any expensive marketing professionals.
