How did everyone feel about this?

I'm torn. I'm possibly too young for the nostalgia aspects, having been only one year old during the mid 90s, but the movie fell a little flat for me.

It felt like Larry Clark's Kids without a worthwhile gimmick and no shock value. The main actor, the little dude, does an amazing job.  But the script is so lacking in any kind of new take on the coming-of-age tale so the movie doesn't stick with you at all.

In the mid-90s I would've been about 5 years old, so the nostalgia factor definitely isn't a big sell for me.

What you have described feels exactly like what I expected based on the Neflix trailer, so thanks for the heads up. I'll probably skip it, but I might end up watching it during a slow weekend or something.
