I wanted to love this film, because I did love the original Backdraft.

Knowing how hard it is to make a decent film, I hate to be negative because I'm sure everyone involved did their best. Maybe it's because it's almost impossible not to compare it to the original, but this film did not work for me, sadly.

I don't know why, whenever there's going to be a remake or sequel, they always seem to think that they have to go "bigger and better" and then they forget why the first film was so great to start with. In BD2, the motives for the fires are due too missiles with some new seeking technology are going to be sold to someone in Nigeria (I think it was). Really? This missile that was supposed to go to the DoD is now lost and can't be found except for a lone fireman. That rang about as true as Louis Farrakhan setting up a bagel shop in Tel Aviv. I think if that was real, the federal government would be all over the case, not a lone fire investigating fireman.

Second issue I had was with Joe Anderson who plays Sean the main character. Kurt Russel's son in the original. He was a VERY unlikable, angry, surly person that was impossible to like. They tried the Save The Cat thing by giving him a dog to save, but it didn't work. I felt absolutely nothing for this guy.

It was fun to see Billy Baldwin and Donald Sutherland though.

Anyone else seen it?

I know this is out. I have no desire to see it though, as it looked very cheap and poorly made.

Was Donald Sutherland as creepy as he was in the original?

It's on Netflix.

Haven't seen it yet, but what I am about to watch is the 3rd season of Slasher, which just became available.  First 2 seasons are rather shockingly excellent!
