I watched Season 1 a couple weeks ago and I have to say, I was more than just impressed - it's actually really good!

I haven't watched any of the popular zombie series, but maybe I need to, as I really enjoyed this one.

Shockingly, this is made by The Asylum, the peeps behind all the horrific pisser movies, almost copying Blockbuster movie titles and plots verbatim.  But, here they show a serious side...a very dark side, and none of this is played for laughs.

For me, this was a true thrill ride.  It's very fast paced and I really like how the camera moves with the action.  Some of the very best on foot chase scenes I've ever seen.

Characterization is low and characters come and go/die.  But IMO, the high octane action is what matters here, and I actually did/do care about the characters.

Another thing I really like is how the plot moves along.  Scenes with different peeps and locales play out along side each other and then paths cross.  Flashbacks are prevalent, but in reality, they're not Flashbacks, just earlier scenes from other angles and perspectives.

Only downside is that Season 1 just wasn't long enough.  There are 8 episodes, but several are very short.

I want more and look forward to a 2nd season.

I really enjoyed this series as well. I loved the less is more approach with the plot and characters. The chit-chat is minimal. literally. One of the characters is a deaf mute, another doesn't speak a lick of English.

Apparently it's a spin-off of "Z Nation" which operated more in a B-Movie universe with lots cheeseball action and tongue and cheek nature. it was a series that for all intents and purposes was created to take the piss out of The Walking Dead.

That is not Black Summer. Black Summer is all business. The plot and characters move with the urgency of a zombie apocalypse. It knows where it's going and it's not going to waste anyones time getting there.
