Wow, wow, wow!

This will be the best thing you see this year!

So someone at work told me about this show that only came out yesterday, it wasn't on my radar at all.

It's a fresh spin on the superhero genre. A dark (extremely dark at times) comedy set in a world where superheroes are very much integrated into society.

I'm not going to say too much about it other than it's got all the good things, lots of action, blood, the language is off the charts, good looking men and women in superhero costumes, and most of all, a hell of a a lot of money must have been thrown at this, everything looks amazing. It also has a fantastic cast all round.

Check this out, even if you're over superheroes, I think you'll love this. I'm hooked and can't stop watching.

And I just finished the first season in a little under a day.

I love this show. Bring on season 2.

It's been on my radar for a few months. I checked out the first two episodes last night. It's fantastic!

Wow! Interesting how peple can differ. I was curious after Warren gushing about it and started watching. I lasted less than five minutes. I thought it was ridiculous and funny, but not in a good way. But, then I've always hated any kind of superhero.

I had a chance to see the first four, not sure I'm going back to it.

But that said, it seems like it's a superhero story written for people who don't like superheroes.

It would be hard to form an opinion on anything in less than 5 minutes, there’s been little to no character or plot development. You don’t even know what you’re giving up on at that point.

But fair enough, not everything is going to please everyone :)

I do think it's your loss though.

It had everything I hate about movies in those few minutes.   :)

I finished this yesterday and have mixed feelings about it. I felt the first half was stronger than the second. I was all hyped up to see how this band of mortals was going to takeout these superheroes. Homelander especially.

I was left a bit disappointed and a bit underwhelmed with their season finale twist. The tone of the show was uneven. At times it was very dark and graphic which I like, then it would venture into slap stick territory. I felt the conspiracy The Boys uncovered came to them too easily. You would think government intelligence would’ve solved this long ago.

And maybe it’s explained in the source material, but we never find out why compound V gives certain people different powers and then Homelander seems to have them all.

He is a great villain, though. But there’s not much backstory to why he’s so evil. All we know is he hates his little blue blanky.

I would still recommend this. I dug the chemistry between Hughie and Starlite. Was  disappointed  at how under used Simon Peg was in this, but Elizabeth Shue did some of her best acting since Leaving Las Vegas.

Anyway, I’ll still be there for season two but this will be on a shorter leash for me.

James.

Finally managed to catch the first episode, and yes, this is my kind of show (so far atleast anyway)

Finally, I finished the first season.

To be honest, I am a little disappointed - I feel like the first episode lead me down the garden path, the rest of the season didn't quite live up to what it promised.

As pointed out by Jwent, the tone shift was... odd. Mainly involving the storyline around "The Deep" which was way too slapstick and didn't feel a good fit for the rest of the dark comedy. His storyline seems to have gone off on a tangent from the rest of them as well.

There were a few swings and misses in there and I can't help think this was a missed opportunity for something far greater.

The season finale was utterly disappointing.

Still, it was entertaining and I will be going back for the second season - I just don't think it is as ground breaking as a few critics will lead you to believe.

Finished watching it last night. It's really good, I wouldn't say the best thing this year as it goes a bit arwy at times but still awesome and I can't wait for season 2.

Looks absolutely terrible!  I didn't even make it through the trailer.  JUst shocking to me how/why anyone over 12 years old would want to subject themselves to such utter garbage.

I'm watching The Walking Dead on Netflix, as somehow, I never saw it.  Very impressed with season 1.

The trailer didn't impress me either. Shame, cuz I love Karl Urban.

As for The Walking Dead, I actually really like the first 2 seasons, after that it really goes downhill...

Karl Urban's accent in The Boys is terrible. It's like he thinks everyone in the UK speaks like Jason Statham lol.

It's pretty much the way it's written in the comics. Spot on actually. So it's not about what he thinks, it's about the way the character actually talks.

How can you write a bad accent into a comic? I think you are referring to dialect.

The accent was terrible and inconsistent - but I assumed it was on purpose to go with the rest of the tone of the series. It worked for me as I found it amusing

Finished the season, and I'm with James that the conspiracy as presented here would have been uncovered by any of dozens of foreign or domestic agencies long before The Boys came along.

I know they have source material to loiter near (and I am completely unfamiliar with said source material), but it would have been much better to have an agency or two in on the conspiracy throwing The Boys off the track.

I'm guessing the disproportionate attention to buzzing insects and The Deep were intentional seeds for Season 2 (otherwise they are really bizarre directing choices).

Enjoyed this a lot. Thought it rode a good balance with the dark comedy. I don't remember it ever going too far into slapstick territory. Most of it was pretty dark. Everything with the main bad guy was disturbing. He was compelling every second he was on screen and is probably the best thing about the show.

There's so many little things I want to mention but I don't want to spoil anything. And I saw it two weeks ago with lots of Maker's Mark so I've forgotten most things.

If you're on the fence because of the trailer, I say give it a chance. There's nothing else quite like it. Well, except for the source material it's based on...

Lastly, I do believe that everyone in the UK talks like Jason Statham. If they don't, they should.

Brillliant in every way. And I don’t like Super Hero stuff. Best bad guy ever and some seriously good writing. I enjoyed it so much I can forgive an accent so bad I literally couldn’t work out if he was English or Australian.
