Friday is family movie night and we decided to pay the Disney+ Premium to watch Mulan. We figured it would've cost us just as much to go see it in the theatre, so what the hell.

I think most everyone knows the premise and the story but I won't give any spoilers. I seem to recall when this first got casted that Disney was getting called out for white-washing? Regardless, the movie has a full Asian cast. What blew me away, in fact, it even offended me, was what seemed like a forced Chinese-American accent that most of the actors portrayed! It was horrible! I can't believe that the actors would do that. Quite shameful.

The production quality is quite good but I was not impressed. Poorly acted and mediocre SFX/CG. The dialogue and action were so Disneyfied. With all the battle scenes and death, not a single drop of blood was visible. I guess that makes war and killing okay in the Disney Kingdom.

Recommendation - Wait until December 4th when it can be watched for free on Disney+.

I haven't seen this film yet, but TBH, I'm not really interested in seeing it after reading multiple reviews. For one thing, in the live-action version, they took out all the fun stuff, like Mushu the dragon, the cricket, and the songs. But even more than that, I feel like Mulan is totally unrelatable in this film. In the animated version, Mulan was just an ordinary girl who knew what she had to do, and she did it. In this new film, she was practically born a ninja, which didn't really make her relatable because fighting in battles seemed to come very naturally to her, while in the animated film she had to really work at it. I think I'll still with the animated version!
