SimplyScripts Screenwriting Discussion Board / September, 2020 One Week Challenge / Has anyone noticed...?
Posted by: LC, September 7th, 2020, 6:12pm
Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah...
Oh, whatever could that mean?
Posted by: Gum, September 7th, 2020, 6:32pm; Reply: 1
I noticed : blah, blah, blah, blah.f about an hour ago...
But now the “.f “ is conspicuously missing. Lest the “.f “ was a Thai Pose, me thinks the birthday ( happy-b day, btw... sorry, on an iPad and only have one finger), ahem birthday/ anniversary has the Don giddy and is toying with us, lol.

Very observant, Rick.
I didn't see an 'f' and thought maybe you were on a rant. ;D As the heading says, something's in the works... And soon!
Guesses...?

Quickie challenge?
Posted by: LC, September 7th, 2020, 7:07pm; Reply: 4
Maybe, maybe not, Zack.

Clue numero uno:
Woody Allen.

It's September. I suspect near the end of the month the October OWC. Please let the theme be killer dolls. Clown dolls are a plus.
Posted by: LC, September 7th, 2020, 10:23pm; Reply: 7
It is September, Darren but Don likes to mix things up around here, keep us on our toes.
The title of this thread (well, the main one) is September OWC, so hang onto your hats, get your pens and keyboards at the ready, cause an announcement is on the horizon.

Guesses...?
Haha! No… no rant this time around, but I did (emphatically) see an “.f “ or was it “f.” ?
Either way, I thought maybe each “blah” represented a letter, and was going to slowly be revealed as an additional letter (clue) over the coming days, at least that’s my initial take, but it appears that was just a typo and was corrected… okay, now I’m ranting, lol.
Woody Allen, eh? For reasons unknown, I keep thinking of one his funniest quotes:
“I would never want to belong to any club that would have me as a member.”
Guesses?: err… comedy? Comedy set in New York? All out of guesses now. Another clue, S'il vous plait?
Also, September is a strange month to have an OWC, not complaining at all; I definitely need something to stoke my writing slump, I just don’t ever remember one in September, all good. Appears you’re running this Libby, or hosting, or … whatever the preferred nomenclature is nowadays?

Was that a Diane Keaton line from Manhattan?
Posted by: Gum, September 8th, 2020, 9:14am; Reply: 10
Umm... not 100% sure, I could be wrong, but my mind somewhat remembers his character 'Alvy Singer' saying it while standing in line at a movie theater (in the movie Manhattan); I think he was paraphrasing an old 'Groucho Marx' quote of the same idea.
Posted by: ajr, September 8th, 2020, 9:25am; Reply: 11
It is a Groucho Marx joke and Woody mentions it in the opening monologue of ANNIE HALL.

Ah, that's right. The Diane Keaton 'infamous' line I was thinking of was "La-di-da" from Annie Hall.
Give me a break, its been 40+ years since I watched that movie!

The software for this board is "E-Blah Platinum" and the URLs always have "Blah" in them somewhere.
Probably a coincidence, because I can't really see how the board itself would tie in with an OWC.

Niiiiiiice. So your main character has to be a neurotic pedophile? Interesting.
Posted by: AnthonyCawood, September 8th, 2020, 12:40pm; Reply: 15
Damn, mmmarnie beat to my punchline!
Bring it on, been missing the SS torture since the Challenge finished.

It's cus I secretly siphoned some of your genius while we were partners. :P

lol mmmarnie - I think more of 'great minds think alike' ;-)
Posted by: LC, September 8th, 2020, 5:57pm; Reply: 19
Oh, come on now, we'll have none of that. ;D Look below the surface.
Second clue: Raymond Chandler.
Posted by: MarkRenshaw, September 8th, 2020, 6:02pm; Reply: 20
I'm working on a new TV pilot at the moment. It's just spec but I'm focused on it and in that zone so not sure if I'll be participating, just depends on what it is. I'd like to as I enjoyed the WT so we'll see.

Second clue: Raymond Chandler.
Smoking. Drinking. Lots of both.
And, Woody Allen sucks as a writer (Yeah, I said it). So, a faux-witty New York-set crime dramedy (Not Martin McDonagh-style), with lots of introspection and smoking. And the main character dies or wishes they did.

Or, my second guess: their initials W.A.R.C. Flip it around: CRAW. As in fish. As in Bayou-style. Possibly related to New Orleans and/or Voodoo? Nailed it.
Posted by: LC, September 8th, 2020, 6:13pm; Reply: 23
Interesting to see the way Blondie's head works. ;D
You're onto something with Martin McDonagh though. He'd deffo make it as a next clue.
And, Mark... I think you'll be able to swing one entry easily. Rick, you guessed right on the one obvious aspect. ;)
Posted by: khamanna, September 8th, 2020, 8:51pm; Reply: 24
Oh, the clues are too obvious. Where do I submit?
Posted by: LC, September 8th, 2020, 9:08pm; Reply: 25
Haha! I was just going to say, where's Kham when you need her!
Three more days of clues until kickoff. :)

Raymond Chandler clue got me in the mood to watch "The Big Sleep"...so I am.
Posted by: LC, September 8th, 2020, 9:47pm; Reply: 27
Cool, Marnie. The clues inspire on many levels, grasshopper. ;)

Synopsis of ajr’s upcoming script for this:
Raymond Chandler must solve the puzzle of Woody Allen being found in a sewer with a bird feeder shoehorned onto his face ;D ::)

Next clue:
Quentin Jerome Tarantino.
Posted by: Gum, September 9th, 2020, 7:35pm; Reply: 30
Hmm... based on the clues, I’d say a gritty pulp fiction thingy in the works? if not, I’m lost... as usual, lol.
Posted by: LC, September 9th, 2020, 8:57pm; Reply: 31
Pulpy fiction, Rick? Well, that all depends... Here's another clue:
Posted by: Gum, September 9th, 2020, 9:03pm; Reply: 32
-> MacGuffin <-
Posted by: LC, September 9th, 2020, 9:52pm; Reply: 33
Don't talk to me like that. Kidding.
MacGuffins would be optional. :)
Posted by: mmmarnie, September 9th, 2020, 10:00pm; Reply: 34
Hmmm....something to do with dialog between two characters, maybe?
Posted by: Gum, September 9th, 2020, 10:29pm; Reply: 35
The MacGuffins having a debate/argument whilst driving... to a sock-hop :)
Posted by: ReneC, September 10th, 2020, 12:10am; Reply: 36
They're auteurs, they all favour heavy dialogue, lots of stuff with two people...
Yup, it's a one-location, two character challenge. ;D

I suck at dialog. Ugh. The new Charlie Kaufman film, "I'm Thinking of Ending Things" is a good example of 2 peeps, one location, heavy dialog. They spend a lot of time in a car.

Oh God. If we have to film it I'm out. Lol. Especially during stupid COVID. :P
If the expectation is that we’re going to act out what we wrote, maybe with another person, that’s harder than it sounds. I’m pretty sure the pitch video I sent to Impact X Netflix for Who Wants to Be a Princess? was about the sixtieth take. (And it was still terrible)
Posted by: khamanna, September 10th, 2020, 5:20pm; Reply: 44
I can totally film myself sitting on my couch and talking nonsense. In fact that's what I'm doing right now.
Posted by: AnthonyCawood, September 10th, 2020, 5:30pm; Reply: 45
I've filmed something I wrote once before, interesting exercise and involved no cameras or actors at all, my one Directing credit ;-)
Posted by: LC, September 10th, 2020, 5:51pm; Reply: 46
How do you 'film' something with no cameras, Ant? Was it an iPhone job?
Ooh, I see some of you are excited and some are ready to throw the towel in. Amazing, it's like watching a rumour become truth when you might or might not be on the right track.
One more clue coming shortly on the eve of announcement.
Hahahaha. That was my evil laugh which will never rival Sean's. Mwahahaha... That's more like it. ;D
