I was bored the other night and stumbled upon Amazon Prime's new series 'Utopia'. The trailer looked over the top violent and just plain weird. It's about a graphic novel that has been, and potentially still is, predicting the fate of mankind. Right up my alley!

Holy crap. Maybe it's because I'm a comic/graphic novel freak but this series ROCKS! So many series take three episodes to get hooked but not this one. One episode is all it took for my wife and me. We're on 5 of 8 and lovin' it.

Interested in hearing if anyone else has given it a shot.

Carson reviewed it on Script Shadow and I can't wait to see it!

And, I was wondering what John Cusack was up to, so double bonus.
I'll definitely be on it. I'm just waiting for one of our other Streaming channels to pick it up.

Great to hear it has your ringing endorsement.  :D

It's on Amazon Prime in Oz.

Thanks, Warren!

I'm hoping after a while that Stan, Netflix, Binge, or even Telstra TV might have it.
We ditched Amazon Prime after the trial a few months ago.

Utopia has a Stranger Things vibe about it which I liked for a while.... I hope it's better than that.

We finished it yesterday and you'll get no spoilers from me.  Unbelievable that this was produced before the current pandemic and the soon to be released vaccine. Awesome show.

Everything Gillian Flynn touches (as a screenwriter) is amazing, so I will look at this.

I think she really should focus on screenwriting and exec producing for TV, rather than novels.

1000x better than Stranger Things IMO, especially that last waste of a season. Can't really compare the two.

Yep, ST sure did take a dive that last season.
Thanks for the update, Warren. Looking forward to it... sometime soon, I hope, or we might have to wangle another trial of Amazing Prime.  ;D

I'm going to assume that those who are praising this series haven't seen the original that this is a remake of?

I only lasted the first five or so episodes. Just not for me, I guess. I'll check Utopia out though since the title sort of says, U too Pia.  ;D

Started this last night and I almost bailed on it. It started out with the feel of a cheap-ass Black Mirror episode. Just awful, IMO. Until... the Kid shows up and all of a sudden it had all my attention. Not going to say anything more other than if you decide to give it a shot, stay at least until the Kid shows up.  8)

Are people watching the new version or the original British one? Think they are both on Prime (here at least)

The new version. Is the original also called Utopia?
Posted by: AnthonyCawood, November 17th, 2020, 3:24pm; Reply: 15
Yep, it was made in 2013, UK production and cast... was great, and just checking IMDB it has a much higher rating.

Will give the new version a whirl given all the positive views from you all... for those that haven't seen it though I recommend the original too.

So I'm 4 episodes into the 6 episode original UK version... meh.

It's just okay for me. The thing I really love about the US version are the assortment of crazy characters. Two that really stick out are Arby and Jessica Hyde. Jessica in the UK version is like a plank of wood, not interesting in any way and Arby is so well done in the US version that the UK version feels really under played.

John Cusack and Riann Wilson also take the US one to the next level.

Maybe if I never watched the US one I'd love this but when you put the two together there is no competition. I also don't like how the UK on is shot, the colours all seem over saturated and it not fun to look at.

I found my attention floating towards my phone several time in the UK version but the US one had me hook, line, and sinker the entire way through.

I'm sad this wasn't renewed. I love Sasha Lane.
