I usually watch horror movies all October. In recent years I've shifted from watching old favourites to watching mostly new stuff. Anyone got suggestions for horror flicks? (The more obscure/unusual/weird the better...I've seen a lot of movies.)

And surely I'm not the only one that does this. Any horror movies that y'all are excited to check out this month? I want to catch up on Candyman and The Night House in theatres. Also going to see Titane tonight, super excited for that.

If you haven't seen They Look Like People yet, it's a good movie that focuses on mental illness. You can find it on Prime. I enjoyed it a lot.

I've been watching quite a few Korean movies/TV shows recently.

One on my list is Monstrum, a creature feature (I've not seen it yet, but it looks like it might be decent)

I'm sure you've seen All Hallows Eve and Terrifier, but what about Terrifier 2? Isn't that one out by now. As indie as they are, I still liked them.  ;D

What about Return Of The Living Dead? Such an underrated and fun zombie flick, IMO. :)

While it is probably uber-movie-geek to have a favorite production house, A24 almost always brings the goods.  The uninitiated are encouraged to browse their library.

Terrifier was so utterly ridiculous that I would most definitely watch Terrifier 2.

Terrifier...one of the select few moves to make me physically ill. That saw scene just made me sick to my stomach. And I loved it.

I love and own that movie. I also have the third movie on VHS, that ridiculous Brian Yuzna one. Also, I haven't seen them forever, but I feel like those direct-to-video sequels from the mid-2000s, Rave to the Grave and the other one, were surprisingly good.

Can't say I'm really recommending Golden Glove. It's a bit ugly and depressing, but it's German and then usually don't go for pretty or cool, IMO. It's based on a real serial killer in 1970s Hamburg, I believe. It made me feel dirty, but I still watched til the end.   :o

I use that as well as cinema visits to keep up with stuff, they've had some good stuff appear of late, including the new Creepshow series.

We do, it’s free with a Prime account. Funny you mention Creepshow; we ordered it off Prime and consumed it in like two nights (only 2 series), a reboot of some of the 80’s skits, and some newer one’s from 2011 believe, and then the Shudder account shows up for free… weird.

A movie I suddenly remembered when reading this thread is ‘The Haunting in Connecticut’, which was actually shot in Winnipeg, most likely for a big tax credit, so it’s more of a haunting nowhere near Connecticut, but it’s based on true events and full of fun cliché’ jump scares for a ‘Monster in the House’ genre, and I think it’s on Shudder.

Here (UK) it's about £8 per month, either directly via Shudder app service, or via a Prime add on (same price)... weirdly there's slightly different movies on either service... but it's a lot easier to navigate and find things on the app.

Libby - I think Barbara Crampton might have a tax bill due, I've seen her in 4 different movies/shows recently - not complaining, she's always good fun.

I think we have absolutely every channel, streaming service, every platform or whatever it's called, thanks to our son. All I have to do is tell my remote what I want to watch. Oddly, it's kind of like going to BJ's Brew House. Their menus are thick like a book with what seems like an endless offering of dishes. I don't like it. I can't decide on anything. Same thing with all these movie and TV options, I can't decide, so I always end up watching something I've already seen and know to be good.  :-/

In The Earth (2021), latest from Ben Wheatley (Free Fire, Kill List, A Field in England, etc.). The less said about it, the better. I will say that it is easily my favorite film of 2021 and the best film I've seen that's come out since The Lighthouse (2019).

Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich (2018 ) is a superb and unprecedented reboot in a franchise I've never seen but always struck me as low-tier/kitschy. Tasteless, unapologetically gruesome, offensive, and yet somehow highly intelligent and well-executed with some horror legends both on and offscreen.

I also rewatched Eden Lake (2008 ) last night. Just about brutal and ugly as I remember except now the leads are famous, which makes the whole thing more of a trip. Also led me down a rabbit hole about Fred Perry shirts (a favorite of the Proud Boys). There's one featured prominently in the film that made for a chilling Easter egg.

I could go on all day, but I've been on record for most of my favorites on this site going back years. These are the ones that stick out in recent memory. And boy, do they. Plenty of "sticking" to be had in all three films, really.

Oh I forgot to say -- seeing Titane in theatre was an awesome experience. The whole audience gasped/laughed/audibly squirmed throughout. Definitely worth a look for those who like the weird stuff -- there's nothing else quite like it.

Not sure when Midnight Mass was made available on Netflix but I'm on episode 5 of 7 and it rocks. By the same team that did Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor but this has a different feel to it. No cheap jump scares, just quality build up and creep factors. ***1/2 (so far).

Good cast in this, with long scenes that really give the actors a chance to stretch their characters.

Glad to hear the new season is good. I've liked some of the different seasons, but I haven't been following the new season at all. Don't even know what it's about. lol

Big True Detective fan here. They couldn't better Season 1 though, imho.
AHS -  I didn't make it through one Ep, was too schlocky for my taste.

Btw, Train to Busan did not disappoint. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Yeah, for me Squid Game was just okay. Clever games and a gore fest (Zack WILL love it!) but that's about it. Don't get me wrong, it was satisfying :)

Finished this. So good until some idiotic decisions near the end that were right out of that insurance commercial (you know, lets hide behind the chainsaws?). Took me right out of it and kept me from bumping this up to a 4* rating. Still a recommend.

I binge watched Midnight Mass. Some stuff I loved, some things made me yell at the tv...like the stupid, long speeches each character had at some point. Like way too freaking talky sometimes. Maybe to stretch it out? IMO they could have shown more of the island with the cats. Had potential to be scary but ended up just being tossed in there. I did enjoy it though. Like a 6 out of 10.

Oh yeah, I saw this flick! Great debut. He's got a good style but definitely on the nasty side.

Don't know how familiar people are with it, but I watched Saint Maud recently and thought it was a great horror film. Bit of a slow burn but well worth it.
